Can anyone explain why my phone likes to have a sudden drain like that?
I came home and house has wifi and that's when it drained.
Sometimes on 3g also can happen.
is it a calibration issue or can it be explained by Rom/kernel issues/other program?

Stop obsessing over battery use and just get over the fact that smart phones normally require charging on a daily basis?

You don't mention having betterbatterystats or CPU Spy on your phone, but they are great diagnostic tools for situations just like this. Without the data they provide we can't really do much other than speculate as to what might be happening. I imagine it's an app causing havoc, but those two apps will confirm it.

I can only imagine it's a battery correction then, your phone wasn't even awake when the huge drain at the end occurred. You've only recently flashed the rom haven't you? Maybe you just need to give it a couple of days to settle properly. In saying that, I've never really had too many issues after flashing new roms, but with two 2000Mah batteries I just switch in a new one...

Looking at the "Phone Signal" section in your screenshot... it looks like your phone might have been switching back and forwards from various signals... If you are in an area with poor reception, your phone will go nuts trying to connect... I found this out the hard way when I left my phone in my locker at work one day and it drained a HUGE amount of battery in a very short time...

As mentioned, BetterBatteryStats is the BEST way to find out what is using all your battery... then you can figure out how to fix it! :)

Also, depending on your ROM/Phone/Network Provider... you might want to check which "modem" you have installed.  A lot of the ROMs come with Modems optimised for overseas networks which don't work so well here...

Also, I have a GT-i9100(which I believe was the modem optimised by Telecom for their network)... however I am using it on 2Degrees...

I've found that the i9100T specific DOLP4 modem (extracted from the latest official Telecom ROM) works best for me here in Auckland... the generic i9100 modems seem to struggle to maintain 3G connections and flick backwards and forwards from the various bands a lot and that seems to cause wakelocks and battery drain.

For the record, at the moment, I am using my own (slightly customised) compile of SlimBean (This is JellyBean built from AOSP sources with cherry picks from AOKP and CM10 apparently)...

I use DorimanX Kernel (currently version v5.83, but I this is a very actively developed kernel, so in the last 3 or 4 days has had about 5 updates released!! v5.83B5 seems to be the latest... you can find it on XDA Developers Forum)

The Kernel already has fairly aggressive undervolting and tweaks, but I have set an additional -50mV undervolting in exTweaks... and also undervolt the GPU as I don't play a lot of "hardcore" games.  I disabled the backlight notifications... and undervolt the LED backlights down to 2700mv as well...

On 2Degrees, I have Fast Dormancy ENABLED...  I find it helps save power when I'm on mobile data (phone drops from DCH directly to IDLE as it would appear that 2Degrees don't utilise a PCH state, so there is a little bit of latency when reconnecting, but I'd prefer that to less battery life)

Overnight, I had 8% battery drop, in about 8 hours... with something like 7 hrs 45mins of Deep Sleep... that was on WiFi with background Sync ON

Lately, with this sort of setup, I have found that I will generally get something like 2 days of battery, with around 4hours of screen on time... for my "normal" usage... a few (shortish) phone calls, texting, web browsing, facebook... background data sync ON... a mix of WiFi and Mobile Data...

ok so the next natural question - anyone has opinion on the best modem for 2degrees?

it was XXLP6

i've now flashed XXLPS which used to be very good on Wanamlite for me prior

... not to worry though planning on going to telecom at some stage ... only data is holding me back for now ... hmmm

Similar question. I've been using XXLPS with Vodafone. Is there a better one I should go with? Recently switched to Slimbean Rom and it's been great but noticed a few freezes and the wireless strength seems very variable.

The modem has nothing to do with wireless, that all in the kernel.

Try another kernel like Siyah or DorimanX if you're having issues.

Dead/ misbehaving microphone on it. started playing up on saturday. Person who I was calling couldn't hear me, and sometime I would even hear myself talking... odd.
hopefully it will come back soon, but i fear it will take Samsung a week or 2 to figure out what to do :( until then im back on my iphone 4 :(

The latest Telecom NZ firmware is DOLP7 (torrent link) try flashing that via Odin.

anyone has a zip/bin file of this modem? or zip of the ROM? the torrent has no seeds nor peers :(

my phone is giving me grief after ported from 2d to telecom

1) the notification "new voicemail" never goes away (no turning it off is not an option and i don't need to hear it coz i rang the guy back)

2) my "android OS + others" is leaking data like tens of MB a day (not new)

3) since the new sim has gone in and since my "new voicemail" the phone plays an annoyingly MAX VOL music eerytime i turn it on;  which may or may not be related to this notification

4) i want the best modem for telecom :)
