I'm new to this thread but am going to see the Galaxy s2 at Parallel imports tomorrow. Saw a friends one a couple of days ago and had a wee play with it. I was impressed with it pretty much. Now the problem is that I've been using IPhones the last few years and have upgraded three years running !!!! Plus I'm running the iPad 2. So obviously I've invested quite a bit over the years in the Apple product. This included such services as MobileMe, ITunes, apps I'm willing to forgo all that to try android and I believe this is the device to tempt me into this shall we say spiral. Traditionally over the last 20 odd years I've been as keen as to try the new technology so this I suppose is nothing new. I'd be grateful for any tips from other "iPhone" converters who have seen the light and switched. My main concern is removing MobileMe functionality. But I believe there are work arounds. I'll check over this thread more shortly to see I'd there are any oth posted tips. Thanks for your advice in advance GZMCC. Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note, Asus Transformer TF300 Cam Am Spyder RS

nofam: Do you have reason to believe the Vodafone SGS2 will have a carrier-specific ROM on it or something? Vodafone NZ definitely does have a custom ROM on their Samsung phones. Samsung have the phone up on their NZ site, and show the model number as GT-I9100LKAVNZ. The generic Euro models are GT-I9100LKAXEU. Note the bold letters. These letters tie in with the CSC (carrier-specific code) for the phones. The original SGS has a VNZ CSC package that contains Vodafone NZ-specific customisations. The SGS2 will have the same thing. stevenz: What're odds of them being SIM locked to VF? Hopefully it wouldn't be too much of a task to put a generic non-VF firmware onto it. I don't believe that Vodafone SIM-lock any of their phones. They don't really need to in NZ, as they're not giving customers all that much of a discount on phones. It's not like you can get a high-end phone at no cost just because you've signed up on a contract. As far as putting on a generic FW goes, it's very easy. You just need a generic firmware package and the Odin flashing tool. Once you've flashed on the generic firmware you simply go into the secret CSC selection menu ( #272[your IMEI]# ), select the generic CSC, and after a factory reset you're done. This will wipe your data, but you'll be unbranded and free to do what you want. I made the jump from iPhone to Android with my first LG Optimus and now have the SGII. Address book: Preferences : Accounts : Sync with Gmail. This will sync your address book back to Google and any updates you do on the phone will get pushed to your AddBook app and up to MM. You can do the same with calendars, but those are help separate (and that's how I keep it). But I think the built-in calendar app can connect to CalDAV from MobileMe. This is what works for me, but there might be more tightly integrated solutions. iTunes: get doubleTwist, both Mac (free) and Android (free + fee to include wireless AirSync). It will sync your iTunes library and keep all your playlists intact. For apps have a look around. Head to market.android.com and have a browse. I think most things should have an equivalent. Pricing currently unknown, he estimates $1000-$1200, but presumably Vodafone will be dictating that. Yeah that gels with the rumours I've been hearing too - some people are speculating around $900, but I think that's too light for a premium device - I'm thinking $1199 Ya you are spot on......it is $1199 and it is 15th June and it comes from a reliable source who is normally not wrong....it is by no means $900 My contact is saying $1199 inc, orderable from June 1st with delivery tbc. Finally got my phone today, whoo! It's charging right now :) How long does it take for a full charge from a completely discharged battery? Need to order the screen protectors; that screen is just too pretty to risk scratching up. I've also gone for a data pack from 2degrees on my prepay until we see what plans Vodafone comes out with. Mine arrived today. No GST paid! I ordered through unlocked mobiles, sent by Royal International post (I think thats what its called). I won't say how they managed that, but its pretty obvious I guess. The phone all up was $920 nzd including shipping and any credit card surchages.

I'm seriously considering the OEM extended battery, but would lose my kickstand then... I'm using an after-market case with a built-in stand and it's far too handy to give up. On another note, I've overclocked mine to 1.3GHz (1.3v), it does make a difference. I've also tweaked the rest of the clock settings and voltages to make it more efficient, which is also paying off. I've still got some fine tuning to do, but honestly never thought I'd be tweaking it so soon...
