nakedmolerat: i dont normally like putting case on my phone(s). however, SGS II is extremely light and i am always concerned that i may drop it!

bought ZENUS ESTIME COLOR POINT SERIES and i highly recommend it. the phone is still light and thin.

My Black Chocolate case just arrived today along with a SGP Ultra Crystal protector. About to attempt to put the screen protector on soon :)

defnz: I opted for the barely there case by case-mate, I don't like cases which protrude past the screen as it tends to collect a lot of dust/etc over time under it

http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-Cases/Case-Mate-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-Barely-There-Cases....

I like the design of the case-mate, but really want a kick stand too. I'm currently using an ebay bought case with a stand (amazingly useful feature). However, the sides do catch and retain dust to the extent that the chrome surround has actually started pitting slightly. Very annoying, but having dropped the phone onto concrete (twice...) I'm reluctant to take it off!

Here's my case: http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-TPU-case-stand-F-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-i9100-/300553704352

The dust problem is bad enough for me to seriously consider changing cases, despite the lack of a stand.

joker97: Ok will buy it thanks

I held out for 6 weeks before buying it, not thinking that it was really all that necessary. If you like flashing updates or rom, or like modding then it's a must have. It saved my butt last night when the latest lite'ning rom went wrong.

ok while I understand what this thing does, what does it do in event a flash goes wrong? Does it reset it so you can begin the flash again (assuming the phone would be bricked otherwise) correct me if i am wrong...

Forgot to add, got myself a 16gb micro sdhc card as well, already set camera to store photos+videos on it. How else can I exploit advantages of having it apart from storing content. Can apps be installed on to it? I see theres only 2GB to install apps... sorry for being naive

In the event of a factory reset or a flash going wrong, you may well lose all your data. I bought the app last night and tried updating my phone to Lite'ning V1.5. It installed but was very buggy and one of the steps to try and fix it was performing a factory reset - wiping all data. Because I'd already backed everything up that was no problem.

Essentially the app is mainly for backing up stuff before you screw with your phone. It also lets you freeze apps, like the problematic Wifi sharing app, to improve battery life (or just to get rid of them). Being frozen they're also easy to restore if you need to.

Others could undoubtedly give better descriptions than me, I've been using it for less than 24 hours, but it's already saved my butt. If you intend on having a good play with your phone, or want to ensure your data are well protected then buy it. You only need things to go wrong once to understand how handy it is.

2GB is tons for apps. Is anyone bothering to put apps on their SD card?

Grab the Apps2SD app from the market and use it to move apps that can be, over to the external SD. You might notice a slight performance hit as the SD's read/write will be marginally slower than the nand internal memory, but probably not unless it's streaming data.

TI can back up various system files and data that makes it easier to recover your personalised settings. If the filesystem damage to your phone is sufficiently catastrophic though, even TI will not be able to recover everything I suspect.

It's also a good idea to sync to Google such things as SMS, MMS and emails as a belt and braces contingency.

HTH.

owner. Now using Galaxy S3. Eagerly awaiting release of the Note 3.

AFAIK the USB jig is only used for removing the yellow triangle and resetting the custom rom count on the SGS2 and that's it

It also forces the phone into download mode so should get you out of the crap if you brick it...

It's saving you from yourself. I spent hours playing that game, probably more than any other cellphone game.

Try a reboot. If that doesn't work, wipe the market data from the settings->applications menu.

I've got the Casemate "barely-there" skin which I quite like. I've got a Zenus case for my Galaxy Tab so I know how good the quality is (very!). A case that gets rid of the bump at the bottom of the back would make sticking it to my car dock easier, looks like their "Air bumper" series might do the job there. Any other thoughts?

Does call waiting work for anyone else on XT?

If I receive a call and try press hold it says "Unable to switch calls."

If I'm on a call and receive another I get notified however when I try answer I get the same thing "Unable to switch calls."

The only call waiting option on the phone is ticked and tried *43# which says the service is enabled
