M_I_C_H_A_E_L: A question for the owners who brought from a retailer here in NZ EG Noel Leeming or Vodafone stores, Did you try and haggle the price down? Im going out today, thinking about walking into Noel Leeming Lyall Bay and seeing if I can haggle the price down because I am paying all cash.

I know its a high demand item, so its probably not likely, but worth a shot.

Thoughts please? :)

im selling mine for 850 if your keen, its not brand new tho, about 2 weeks old

Gilco2: comparing to the HTC Desire HD screen.  Watching video on the Desire I can see more detail and peoples faces are more natural. On the Galaxy S2 watching the same video you only see part of the picture as it is too dark and peoples faces have a more orange type look which doesnt look natural at all

There are system-wide settings, the ones you found with background effects (the Movie setting drabs things up). There are also specific settings in the video player that do a similar thing.

I havent found any other settings. In the Video player it came with if I select menu, I only get bluetooth sharing or subtitles.  I found moboplayer and apart from brightness no other settings there either

Spong: Have been patiently waiting for Skype video calling to come to Android and the new releases have finally added video calling.... for some phones only, unfortunately not for the SGS or SGSII yet.

However, some smart cookie's managed to modify the 2.0.0.24 apk to work fine with the SGS, SGSII and a number of other phones. Working beautifully for me with both cameras. A mate in Japan with fibre said my rear camera image looked stunning.

Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148708

how weird. i tried the two different cameras (using the above versioned app): the front camera shows 'normal'-for-skype resolution and quality. the rear camera shows highly pixellated (ie much lower resolution) video capture! consistently.

one thing i found out: once you buy something you either need to delete your cards details or never let anyone near you phone. ONE CLICK will buy you anything on any app ... so if you don't want to be caught out and made poorer by evil google ... heed my words!

Neets:
mrgsm021: Hello guys,

Looking to order SGS2 from www.unlocked-mobiles.com who are based in the UK.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these guys before?

Sorry if this question had been asked already elsewhere.

They are about 4 pounds cheaper than Clove and shipping is cheaper via royal mail to NZ (20 pounds).

Yes guilty as charged.  They were great to deal with.  There was a delay in receiving their stock and they kept me informed all the way.  And due to the delay I asked to change the delivery method and it all went without a hitch with every email I sent answered promptly.  The phone arrived when expected and it was great to be able to track it.

I was charged customs duties and GST when it arrived but I knew that was likely and fair enough.

Thanks Neets for sharing the experience.

I had taken the plunge and ordered SGS2 from them on Friday using Royal mail. They e-mailed back asking for proof of ID, address and credit card authorisation code for security check.

I replied to them immediately with the info they needed, and they dispatched on the same day.

As you described, e-mails answered promptly and fast shipping I am very impressed so far.

What shipping method did you use when you got hit with customs duties/GST?

I was lucky not to have been charged GST when I ordered my SGS from ebay, hopefully will be as lucky this time round.

Just out of interest, what are you guys using for protective cases for your SGS2?

I ordered this from ebay. The brand Pleomax is apparently part of or subsidiary of Samsung.

I decided to go for this case because I like the look of the buttons, they are actually metal looking plastic buttons, and not inlet holes for the volume rocker and power button.

Today I put a couple of xvids on thr gs2 and it now gives me the options to change brightness and colour temp. No option on mp4 videos.  Still find it way too dark so have gone back to my DesireHD at the moment

Hmmn, odd! I know that there is definitely some black crush in evidence, but overall I find it great. Hopefully Supercurio is working on a Voodoo Colour Fix for us, like what he did for the SGSI - it gave a more natural white point, better colour reproduction over the range of brightness settings, and better dark detail preservation than stock.

Interesting! I had Avatar (2GB 720p) mkv file playing on my SGS and compared it to my mate's Desire HD and he agreed that it looked much clearer on mine phone than his. Also had Inception on both of ours and again, the quality seemed to be much clearer on mine than his.

This is what swayed me away from HTC as I'm very fussy when it comes to my multimedia on the go!

He did say a while ago that he was, but has been working on voodoo sound a lot lately.
