Is audio slightly out in 720p youtube/flash playback for anyone else using Cognition?

Is that because he's deodexed thus no hardware acceleration? Could be because I'm UV'd as well though 720p MKV's play fine through the standard samsung player

K1000716:
networkn: jinx: so lite'ning doesn't require root, or installs root at the time?

If I update to a later official rom, will it wipe the data and apps from my phone?

1. Installs CWM and roots your phone at the same time. Blue theme'd rom, good battery life, I quite liked it. Link.

2. I've never gone back to a stock rom, but if you retain root you will be able to use titanium back-up and easily restore all your data and apps. Titanium is a great app...

Wow that was so easy! And I like the ROM, though the lockscreen is busy.

Is it possible to get the more comprehensive power off menu? Ones with options like reboot (Rather than just switch off), and reboot to recovery.

Brendan:

[partial quote] Get into CWM by powering off the phone, and hold in volume UP and home key; then hold in power for 5 seconds odd. [took a bit out]

Having achieved all this, you will find that ALL women want you and all men want to be like you Laughing

Love the closing line.  Hmm, does that mean ALL men want me and all women want to be like me?  I suspect it doesn't work the other way around  Wink

Ummm, I have consulted with various authorities and I believe that there is indeed a certain amount of cross-over: there will indeed be some women who want you and some men will want to be like you. Laughing

When it comes to knowing when to take your fingers off the 3 buttons.  As soon as you see the Samsung boot logo appear, release the buttons.

Doesn't always work for me I've found. I'm usually best to leave it a few seconds after it appears.

everybodylovesfebs: Okay I installed Rom and tried installing CWM through there but read somewhere that it won't work.

So manually installed CWM for i9100 through odin and re rooted again by superOneClick.

Next I tried to backup my current by CWM, turned off the phone, pressed volume down, power and home button but it just goes into "downloading" mode and I have no idea how to go into cwm recovery mode and make a backup :(

I have downloaded Cognition v1.15 from - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396 and just waiting on how to backup.

It's VOLUME UP, home and power for cwm...

I do the same. It's damned annoying if you don't hold it down long enough...!

I use Widget Locker for my lockscreen. Highly customisable. :)

The extended power off menu is to be fixed in v3.1, due very shortly. You can still use the CWM app to do most things though. Or shut it off and use the power/home/vol up keys.

networkn: Ok so which Cf-ROOT do I download and install or do I need to update via Kies to a later ROM version before I consider rooting?

Sorry for all the newbie Q's

You can just use any, truth be told...

Download the kernel and the custom rom of your choice (I use cognition 1.15 currently, but also had respect for villianrom).

Put the rom zip file on your INTERNAL sd card in the phone. Remember where.

Boot the phone into download mode. Follow the instructions from my other post, but this time UNTICK the 'reboot' option.

Flash the kernel with Odin. When it is finished it's little log panel will say succeeded 1 failed 0 and then stop. It's finished.

Unplug your phone (ONLY when you get the succeeded line above!), and take the battery out of your phone. Put the battery back in and seal it up.

Hold in the VOLUME UP, and HOME keys, then hold in the power button. A couple of seconds after the samsung logo appears, release the power button. You should now be in Clock Work Mod (CWM).

Use the vol up/down keys to navigate, and the home/power buttons to execute.

Do a backup!

Then go into the choose a zip to install, and navigate to your downloaded cognition rom (or rom of your choice) file on the internal SD card. (External sd will not work).

Execute the install proceedure (press the home/power button with it selected).

Reboot. Enjoy.

Note: the cf-root kernel is simply a temporary means to get CWM on your phone in order to install the zip file.
You took the battery out in order to turn the phone off, so you could go directly into cwm without booting into android first.
You may need to reinstall your apps.

lol thanks I got it all working :)

anyways for some reason the stock rom seems smoother, cognition one the stock internet browser(the one i always use by default) gets unresponsive at times.

Battery life have definitely improved from 8h ish to 12-14hours with medium use with full time live wallpaper, occasional 2min games session, wifi and 3G.

So happy I don't see the wifi sharing in my battery usage anymore!!

That's a common problem with the default built in browser, the solution is still being developed.

Download dolphin HD and use that instead, it's better anyway.

Sweet thansk.

For some reason I'm having trouble with Facebook for android syncing with my contacts. But before cognition, the stock samsung fb was syncing very nicely.

So my question is if I want my samsung fb back, which apk should I install?

1. Social Hub.apk
2. SnsAccountFb.apk

Or any other one from the removed app list - http://ponack.net/designgears/roms/sgs2/removed/ ?

EDIT:

""  Removed Apps:

(copy apk's /system/app, don't try to install them normally, it won't work)

http://ponack.net/designgears/roms/sgs2/removed/   ""

How do I copy those apks into system folder? I tried copying and pasting through "androzip" similar to astro but astro wouldn't go into system files. And not sure how to install those removed apps.

You will have to download a filemanager like rootexplorer and then set the system/app directory to RW, then copy the files there.

There are alternatives to root explorer that are free.

When i installed FB app from the market, it just synched all the contacts to my contacts app automatically. It asked me first.

Looks like some people are having issues. 2.2 is rock solid for me so I'm in no hurry to change

Ok well I am done with Litening until it's stable, I need BT Working properly. Can someone post a summary of the other most popular roms so I can work out what is best ?
Not sure if anyone used ozrom on the GS1, but that's what I want. Fast, Stable, nicely themed, though I know there are millions of themes. Something easy to flash would be excellent.
