madspaz: Was just curious, just incase you reinstalled all the old samsung/stock apps that cog removes which kills battery. lol I did install the stock fb app but and digital clock app and thats about it..

well i finally flashed my phone. installed villianrom on it. trying to sort out the battery drain issue and having emergency calls only (which im following up in another tread) Just done a full charge, shall see how it goes! I did a full backup when flashing, full factory reset. I had made a little list of apps i wanted. when i turned it on and went through the setup it automaticaly installed all my old apps! A+ google

Just noticed that Cognition 1.31 doesn't seem to have the ChainsDD SuperUser app installed, so when I installed a new app that wanted root for some of its features (WidgetLocker) it wouldn't work. Had to do a manual push-install of the SU 3.0 beta from androidsu.com, then reboot a couple of times to get it to pick things up. Seems like a bizarre thing to remove assuming it was intentional. "You are" = "You're" - Not "Your". "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There". You probably mean "lose" not "loose". There's no such word as "Alot". On the internet, wasting time, since '89.

nofam: Brendan: Just a mad idea I had: Who thinks a FAQ for this forum (galaxy S II), perhaps posted to the front of the thread, is a good idea? I see a lot of newbies asking the same questions, and even some old hands from other devices need info. People find wading through 90 pages (or 400 in the S1 thread!) impossible and i can't say I disagree. Often that info is out of date anyway. If so, I'll volunteer to put it together with the help of the posters here.... Opinions? I'm keen to help - perhaps it could be a Google Docs kinda thing, as flow charts are often a good way to explain when you should/shouldn't use pit files, flash bootloaders etc? Let me know if you want a hand. I've already created a document for the Rom Kitchen for flashing the SGSII and I've got another on common flashing terms with a screen shot and explanation of Odin 1.85. This is probably old news, but I've read that the official 2.3.4 update is coming to the SGS in August (after having been delayed from July). Probably doesn't really interest most of you here as you're all going custom anyway! :)

Can anyone tell me what the hole above the volume rocker switch is? I thought it might be the noise cancelling mic but noticed that next to the headphone jack.

1) has anyone flashed any 2.3.4 chainfire kernel - any bugs? 2) if i install litening rom or cognition rom, will i still be able to use samsung track your phone to the nearest metre feature (also ring the phone, lock it up, wipe it, melt it, vapourise it)?

Any discussion on it might be best done here, but I notice that google docs has a facility for that too. I have established a document style and layout and some basic info. I think a strategy of getting the basics in and later coming back to flesh out and add detail/updates might work best - as opposed to a monolithic futile attempt to be complete from the beginning. What i have written so far is aimed at the newbie - IE interested, able, but unsure of the detail. I have used analogy and diagrams successfully in my business, and I think it should work here also. I have inserted links into the documents for appropriate sections and other information, so users can jump right in. After we have something substantial, I'll change the editing rights to useful contributors only (so vandals can't ruin it if it gets bigger). Still, I am flexible (all the girls tell me so) so I am open to suggestion.

I absolutely agree - it will make life much, much easier for people new to the handset. Perhaps have a link to the FAQ rather than including all the content in a post? Questions/topics covered in the FAQ could include: - Rooting your handset - Flashing custom ROMs - which one to choose and how to do it - Improving battery life - "Must install" apps and perhaps separate into free and paid (I'm thinking keyboard apps, Titanium Backup etc) - Phone monitoring tools e.g. CPU/Memory - Why task killers are a no no - Cases/accessories - recommendations - Security recommendations i.e. installing Prey or other options - Any uber awesome games that push the phone to the limits - Any uber awesome apps that allow you to show off demonstrate phone capabilities to iPhone users I can think of a bunch more and would be happy to contribute...I actually put together a list of good Android Apps which I email out to friends whenever someone new gets an Android device, haven't put it on the net though. Just waiting for my SGS II to show, probably next week. Have put your suggestions on the list in the google doc, thanks! And a attributation lol.

I look forward to the latest firmware. 2.3.4. Presumably I will see it mention here when someone has seen it live. Presumably it will be available OTA on the device when its available?? I look forward also to reading the FAQ. As I must admit there is a lot of information out there on Rooting and the like and its very confusing to know where to turn too. My main concern currently is the battery drain. Im sure its even draining faster when the phone sits in my pocket as opposed to sitting on a desk?? GZMCC. I guess, in theory, the water content of your body could absorb the microwave signals to/from the phone, thereby prompting the phone to amplify the signal at the cost of battery... If you carefully wrap your hands around the phone you can decrease the signal. Try a shirt pocket.
