Hello everyone :)

Currently specing out applications in prep for when I get my new phone. This'll be my first android phone so I don't have much experience on what is out there.

I've already got the TradeMe app on the "to download" list but I was wondering if there were any other New Zealand applications available?

Thanks.

Hrrmmm was actually hoping more for a centralised listing of all NZ apps.

Similar to this: http://androidmobile.co.nz/nz-apps

But with more recommendations.

That Auckland bus app looks so appealing, but the reviews really put me off. :(

What is the Trade Me app? I can only see TMW - is this what you are referring to?

Last sat/sunday was official release day of Dominos Pizza smartphone aware website site.. so no app for our pizzas :(

And pizza hut has still not made an app for either platform. NZ Specific I have:

Subway
Quick Quake (they changed it to filter NZ only)
mPass (Air NZ checkin barcode if you travel a bit)
Stuff - reader
Yahoo Mail (for xtra mail)

Tried the road webcam one, but it had really old not updated photos on it.

Other nifty recommendations:

Google Goggles - OCR, language translation, logo searching, whats that object finder :)
Barcode Scanner - scanning QR codes to install stuff (I also made a contact one for my work email sig)
SoundHound - listen to music from a speaker, tell you what it is
Google Sky Map - real time star chart that shows you whats infront of you as you hold it up
MoboPlayer - play .avi / .mkv without re-scaling size/aspect
XE Currency converter.. for working out your overseas purchases
Photoshop Express - simple photo edits on the phone gallery

I'm an andriod user, and while I love certain types of apps - Google Maps, Navigations, games etc, I can't quite understand the need for Apps like Subway, Stuff, pizza ordering etc. These apps are just ways of accessing and sending specific material on the internet, so doesn't it make more sense to use a phone-specific website instead? It just seems really messy to have all these individual apps rather than just a set of favourites.

Yeap. Faster too when the data is pre-loaded into a database.

For instance, the subway app uses GPS and lists the stores by distance from you. No going to a page to find it.

It took me longer to order a pizza on dominos mobile, than it did to drive to the shop to pick it up from where I was. Had it have them held within the app dbase and not online and submit the order at the last point I would have been done in seconds.

Instead I had to wait for each page to load, and then tell it to turn off graphics.. then wait.. then enter details.. then wait. Etc.
