timmmay: When I try to download the facebook for android app I get the following message

Purchase cancelled - Facebook for Android
The item you were attempting to purchase could not be... (I can't read the rest)

Other apps download fine.... what's going on? How come I can't even see the error message?! Any ideas?

I don't have Facebook on my tablet so thought I'd try to see if I could replicate your problem.  I can't find an app called "Facebook for Android".  There is a "FriendCaster Tab for Facebook"  But it's free.

What Market are you using to search for the app?

I go to http://market.android.com and look at the top free apps. I can't see it directly in market on the device.

The keyboard in dolphin hd is really laggy.  Can you install swype? I should check chrome.

Edited on a PC - keyboards are way easier for typing. Tablets are great for consuming content but not for creating it.

justjay: Congrats!!!

Did you just get the tablet or the keyboard dock too??

First thing you should do (besides charge it) is upgrade. You'll need to connect to WiFi but hopefully thats pretty easy to work out. Once connected it should auto-detect the update, if not go into settings -> about tablet -> system firmware update -> check update

That should bring you up to 3.2.

The rest is really up to you. I'd google "best honeycomb apps" to get some impressions of what people like. Here is my current list of daily used apps which I installed from the market:

1. Plume (twitter client)
2. Amazon Kindle (ebook reader & store)
3. QuickPic (gallery application with a few extra features over the stock gallery)
4. Dual Battery Widget (really useful if you have the dock)
5. SugarSync (Sync files between my desktop and tablet - some people prefer dropbox)
6. Dolphin Browser (my preferred web browser, although Opera Mobile is tempting me)
7. File Manager HD (cool file manager with bookmarks (also use ES File Explorer which is a bit less polished but with better features)
8. Thinking Space (mindmapping application)
9. ezPDF Reader (best PDF app on the market, worth the investment IMO)
10. MoboPlayer (movie player, good with divx movies)
11. Newsr (goolge reader client)

I am also trying to decide on a note taking app. Currently trialling TabNotes, FreeNote and Genial Writing. Havent settled on one yet although if TabNotes let me save a JPG locally of my notes I'd go with that.

I also have PrinterShare installed which lets me use Google CloudPrint to print out documents from my TF.

Most of those are free and can be found in the market.

Hope that helps :)

thanks for your tips. I've installed Newsr and really like the layout and just connected up with PrinterShare.  Cheers :)

Ok, I'm not sure how you're access market.android.com.  Even when I got to Settings | Applications the Market is just "Market".

Can you list the steps you're using to access the Market.

On my phone when I go to the Market under Top Free Facebook for Android appears.  But on the tablet's Market, there is no such application.

I have installed SwiftKey X (paid application) keyboard which I like, but it's all moot when I'm using the keyboard.  I'm unsure if there's a swype application for the tablet.

Weird. If its not in the market app its probable some fool has decided to say its not compatible with honeycomb. I used to use seesmic and liked that for facebook streams and then just used the mobile web page, but dont use facebook much these days.

For the keyboard you could try switching from the asus one ti the stock honecomb. If that doesnt work you coud try swiftkey, its pretty good but is a pay app. Not sure about swype, couldnt see it in the market for tabs yet...

I just open the web browser and go to https://market.android.com and I can see Facebook for Android up there. Maybe it's not compatible with Honeycomb?

I don't know how to switch to the stock Android keyboard.

Try looking from just the market app on the tablet, thatll just show you compatible apps. Also try google as sometimes there is a workaround to install it. Other trick from the web store is to sign in with yiur google account, this will let you filter search for aps that match your registered devices.

for the keyboard there is normally a little keyboard icon next to the clock while you are typing. if not there go to settings - language  and input - input method. You can change the settings there.

For some reason geekzone is really laggy on text input, but other sites are fie... weird

Go to Settings, select Language & Input, Keyboard Settings, then change the keyboard you're using there.

EDIT:  too slow ;-)

I guess facebook for Android just isn't compatible yet. Oh well, the website works.

I'll try the keyboard trick, thanks.

Thanks again for all your help :-) I'm sure i'll have more questions... just ignore them if you're busy or sick of them :)

Sorry, I was being thick, well actually I wasn't reading what I was seeing.  You have a full web address and all I read was market.android.com which I presumed you found from the Applications area of settings.

Has anyone rooted their Android 3.2 transformer? The only reason I want to do it is to add ad blocking to my hosts file.

Yes, there is another method now to the one I used. The new method is a one click thing now. XDA has various methods.

so how did the sleeve shopping go?
Id like to pick one up this weekend. there is a targus zamba; case logic vls110  or an stm xs glove on the net

I have an Everki 10.1" commute, designed for my old netbook, fits the width of the tablet nicely, also takes the charger and eventually the keyboard.  however if you don't want to carry the charger/keyboard round, it might not be that good

I like the idea of a handle but can I ask why you think it wont be so good if you're not carrying charger/keyboard round?

Here's ONE of the links to root your device.  It is one click, but if you're not running Linux you have to do a few extra steps to get to the one click part.

Are you aware rooting your device invalidates your warranty?

I suggest you read through posts on the main Transformer TF101 Development thread.  There's a post on how to un-root, and there are other rooting options.
