I've disabled the price alert now because it's doing my head in.
I wonder if this is because the 3G model will be coming soon (was due for release in Europe about now)?

just tried using the HDMI out on my tablet - with a new mini-HDMI - HDMI cable I purchased from DSE.
No luck though - my AOC monitor doesn't see an input signal.
I couldn't see any settings on the tablet relating to HDMI output mode or anything like that.
Could be a dud cable or an incompatibility with the screen I guess.
Will try connecting it to my TV at home.
Anyone else had this sort of problem with the HDMI out?

kind regards Andrew TD

I tried on three different TV's. Sony, Panasonic and Sharp (don't ask why we have so many different brands in the house!) and the only one that would see the tablet was the Sharp which is the oldest. I haven't tried with the latest firmware though.

That bodes poorly for me then. I'm on the latest firmware, and I have newish Panasonic TVs at home.

It has been an issue on most of the forums. You would think it would be pretty safe to sort the HDMI out. The standard has been around for yonks.

Haven't tried, but that sounds a bit bloody hopeless.

I tried the hdmi out and plugged it into my Denon Sound system which goes to a Panasonic TV. It worked fine.

Doing a quick google looks like others have similar problems. Without reading all the posts looks like compatibility with different HDMI standards and different TVs supporting different ones. Need to score a cable now to test it on my Bravia at home...

"Some Tablets, such as the Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry PlayBook and Acer Iconia Tab A500, support HDMI using Micro-HDMI (Type D) ports. Others, such as the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer support the standard using Mini-HDMI (Type C) ports. The iPad and iPad 2 have a special A/V adapter that converts Apple's data line to a standard HDMI (Type A) port. Samsung has a similar proprietary thirty-pin port for their Galaxy Tab 10.1 that can adapt to HDMI as well as USB drives. The Dell Streak 5 smartphone/tablet hybrid is capable of outputting over HDMI. Whilst the Streak uses a PDMI port, a separate cradle is available which adds HDMI compatibility."

From this 12 page thread on the issue:
http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-general-discussions/540-mini-hdmi-output-tv-receiver.html

So need to make sure the cable is Type C?

Panasonic seems to be the tv that gives the most problem. Sony seems to be a mixed bag. Samsung seems to have the most chance. They also recommend (if it doesn't work) updating firmware on tv.

Interesting. My cable is Type C. I'd never thought to look for "Types" of HDMI cables before, other than version number e.g 1.3 etc.

Actually re-reading that I think that's just describing the different connections from each tablet, rather than the required cord.
Let us know if it works with your tv at home tonight (and which brand/model tv it is). I have a Samsung LA40650 and a 26 inch LG in the bedroom.

I've read somewhere you should try all the HDMI inputs on each TV set, sometimes only one works with the transformer. I have two Samsung LCD TVs at home, and the right cable, I just have to get around to trying it some time.

CM: $649 for 16Gb version WITH dock! Crazy.
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=15209

Good grief - at the current exchange, even better than buying off Amazon.  Question is, do I -really- need the keyboard dock (I already have an Alienware M11X and the wife has a EEEPC 1001HA, so we already have two keyboard-ed portable devices)?

Very difficult choice between the 32GB version at $599, or the 16GB with dock for $649 - both fantastic value.

Get the 16GB without dock, and get a memory card with it.

My Mum asked me to choose her a new laptop, the cheaper the better. She's used to Windows, and isn't really a computer person. She just wants to do spreadsheets, email, and surf the web. I wonder if I should just suggest a Transformer with dock? Maybe a netbook? Any thoughts?
