To get internet access mode on my my eee pad I when I am out and about i.e out of wifi range - I simply turn on tethering on my SGS mobile - Mobile AP mode. Then my eee pad just connects to the phone as though it were a wifi network (which it effectively is in that mode.) You should of course set up the usual security - passowrd when you do that.
Tethering works really well for me, and I use it a fair bit.

kind regards Andrew TD

Yeah I'm using my Sensation as a Wifi hotspot but I feel like USB modem would be more power efficient. I've done a little research and it turns out that it's possible to use usb modems if you have drivers and root access.

Anyhow my current mission is to try and find a way to stream media to my Transformer. I have tried playing 720p MKV files using DicePlayer from the sd card and found them a bit laggy :(

Unfortunate draw back on the Tegra-powered tablets unfortunately, I wind them watchable enough at a push, but to be honest I prefer watching them from my phone via an HDTV.

Have you tried Moboplayer? I watched some 720p divx stuff using Moboplayer the other day and it seemed to play fine. There are converters out there to go from MKV to the older divx standard if need be.

The movies I was watching were pretty short (about 15 minutes) so not sure if that makes a difference either.

I find watching movies on the Transformer works well, on the screen or via HDMI to a TV. I don't use the stock media player, but I forget the name of the one I use, and I don't have my transformer on me to check. Might be Moboplayer.

The best way to use the Transformer as a phone might be using a SIP client and VoIP. Maybe Skype.

I have a MiFi that works well with the transformer. Once I get an Android phone i'll give it up though, it's easier to carry one device than two.

Well, in a rush of blood to the head, I saw a 32GB Transformer (with keyboard dock) on special and bought it. While I recognise most people on this thread are old hands with the Transformer and I am just beginning and coming to grips with it, I have noted the following.
I was disappointed some of the apps I have on my DHD weren't compatible with honeycomb and will need to look for alternatives. And that it won't play back video from my htpc streamed via aMPdroid (my DHD does). THe stock video player won't play it at all and moboplayer plays but the audio/video are out of synch. Further investigation required.
I am loving the battery life (still 20% after 3 days away from the charger) and the physical keyboard for things like typing this post. In fact the only time I have reached for the iPad2 is to check the RWC as that is one of the apps that hasn't transferred to honeycomb!
I am trying to track down a spare proprietary usb cable, so far to no avail.

edit: fix typo

I bought mine from Amazon. They calculate the tax before you complete the order. You could work your way through the order process just to see what it will cost.

Firstin and some vendor sometimes have them cheap. Computer lounge had them on special and Dick Smith had them for $499 a couple of weeks ago. If you are not keen on paying the tax maybe sign up for a pricespy.co.nz account and add it to your alerts. Then pricespy will send you an email whenever the price drops.

I bought a cheap dodgy cover off Dealextreme for the princely sum of $12 USD.

I will post a mini review when I get it. Unfortunately it is very slow to ship.

Cheers.

I am now running Android Revolution HD rom with an OCed kernel (up to 1.68ghz) so far it has been fairly stable but not really a whole lot to recommend over the stock rom. the launcher is still a little laggy sometimes.

I think if anyone is thinking about purchasing the Transformer, hold off as the revised version is due out next month according to reports / rumours.

Improvements include the upgraded Targra 3 and a slight processor bump.

I think it's pretty unlikely that a new version with Tegra 3 will be coming out anytime soon.
