NZtechfreak:
Foo: I'm very keen to hear a blow by blow account of the Sensation versus the SGS II.

Thats what I'm producing for Clove right now, first part should be up any time now.

Excellent - will take a look when it's up.

ArtooDetoo:
Foo: So why is ArtooDetoo talking about not being able to enjoy any high speed 3G at home. It's a situation which has even led him to exclaim "poo" ;-)

My 'home' 3G is limiting my available download speed on XT and VF. I don't know what the theoretical maximum is, but the worse the signal, the lower the speed. So if I go sit under a cell tower, I will enjoy the full fruits of 3G/HSDPA. This will be fine if it's not rainy or cold.

I'm lucky enough to enjoy a decent broadband at home which the Sensation uses well via its WiFi connection to my network. But that doesn't help with my day to day testing of the XT 3G.

So, poo.

I was responding to lokhor re: it not really being an issue at home and was wondering why, if that was the case, you had posted it.

But poo does seem to be the order of the day! :-)

I'm not surprised tho. HTC realized that sensation is not on par with galaxy s2. I guess they have to repositioned the product. $705 locally? All of sudden I have the urge to order one!

You really have to have one of these HTC Sensations in your hand and use it for a few days before deciding it's "second" to anything.

Different...yes. Second? Not so much....certainly for multi-tasking.  Excellent value.

bronto: Anyone bringing one of these to the Auckland Android Meetup on Thursday? *cough*Linuxluver*cough*

Good plan.

Yes. I'll bring my Sensation with me on Thursday. :-)

I think the big one for me is the build quality, I checked out the SGS 2 a few times but wasn't as confident in the build quality.

NZbeagle its worth mentioning that build materials and build quality aren't neccessarily the same thing. While it has better materials I actually think the Sensations build quality is the more suspect of the two.

Hmm fair point, saw your point in the head to head review. But holding the Sensation in one hand and the SGS 2 in the other, Sensation felt better. Obviously, an opinion. And i'm not a big fan of the shiny plastic of the Samsung's either.

confrontation: How is this fone able to go on XT? Does it have WCDMA 850? because I have only seen that it has 900 and 2100.

Please read the first post in the topic. Telecom is launching these devices VERY soon (announced a couple of weeks ago). GSMArena is actually the worst place to get information on handsets because it's usually incomplete and doesn't list all models.

I apologise if someone has already raised this but I was able to look at the display 'dummy' phone of the sensation in Telecom's Wellington Central store. What I noticed was that when compared to the screen of my DesireHD, the screen on the dummy appeared to be about 4mm narrower and shorter than screen of my DHD. They both supposedly have a 4.3" screen so I am hoping it is just that the display dummy is only trying to be a reasonable likeness and not exact. I am yet to find a real Sensation 'in the wild' to be able to compare.
Anyone who owns both able to comment?

It's a slightly different ratio screen, as in it is 16:9 widescreen as opposed to 5:3 of the Desire HD. This may be what you are noticing. I haven't checked side by side with a Desire HD.

Don't own both but the screen measurements of this Sensation are 95mm long x 53.5mm wide. On the diagonal, the screen measures a fraction over 4 and a quarter inches, so 4.3" sounds pretty bang-on.

Hopefully you can compare those measurements with your HD.

HTH.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Now using Galaxy S3. Eagerly awaiting release of the Note 3.

M_I_C_H_A_E_L: I have a question for any of the three that got given these. Do you get to keep the Sensations?

Yep, we do. :-)
