@NZTechFreak. Will/have you done an outdoor screen test for both of these devices? By that I mean seeing what the screen is like to look at in the outdoors with the sun blaring down on it. Cheers

After reading up on both phones, I am swaying towards the SGS II, however with about $200 price difference between them, it's perhaps not worth the additional price.

I guess nothing is forcing me to upgrade my phone right now, can always wait another 3 - 6 months. Hmmm, oh, yes, the high US$ dollar does seem to make these things cheaper right at the moment! Anyone know what the exchange rate will be in 3 months? ;-)

I have it from reliable source (my genie) the exchange rate will be dollar for the dollar.

My ideal phone would be the screen housing and HTC sense UI with the Galaxy S2 internals. Dont know why HTC didnt install more internal storage and ram on the Sensation

Holy heck 32gb of media on a phone? Seriously, how much of that would you use within say a month?
And I'm keen to hear what high end games you have, seems to not be that many on Android.

I have heard a lot about Kies and how awful it is.
How important is that to the use of the phone?
Likewise the new HTC Sync?

At risk of going off topic, you can get it cheaper than that - Eking has it for $929 (incl. delivery) and Expert Infotech has it for $919.

Probably best if you ignore Kies. There's no compelling reason for its use.

HTC Sync does what it says, but you don't need it. There are other ways to do what Sync does, and firmware updates are OTA so again, no compelling reason for it. But if you're a "it just works" personality type, then Sync will do the job.

But somebody with that personality type will be much happier with an iPhone I believe.

For SGS II, Kies is needed to install firmware updates or are they OTA?

Kies isn't needed, and can only be used for stock updates so is redundant for most anyway. No, for the moment Samsung refuses to enable OTA updating but it's said to be on the way.

Sorry, you've confused me - Kies isn't needed but it is needed for updates? Or is is only needed for Samsung specific updates (which Android 2.3.4 would be?)

Kies isn't needed at all. That's understandable, no?

The only situation where you might use it is if your phone is totally stock and your carrier has an update available. But you can update without Kies by using Odin, and you won't be waiting for your carrier to provide a suitable update - you can update as soon as a new firmware is out there.

Or you could update via Kies and wait for your carrier to provide its customised firmware.

It's your choice; use Kies, or don't. It's not 'needed'.
