theanalyst: So....my XT contract comes up this month and I've been using a Nexus One up until this point. Please convince me to get a Sensation - actually I need a credible argument so I have some answers when my wife starts asking questions about my new phone.......help.

The sensation is a awesome device for the pros among us, it will help you remember your anniversary plus her birthday, and give you more time to cuddle up on the couch with her instead of spending that time on the computer. It will also cost you nothing on the smartphone $100 / 24mo contract so you can say you got the phone for free. The contract will give you more data and talking minutes so you can phone her every now and then.

The phone itself shouldn't need updating in the next few years and she could be the proud new owner of the nexus.

There we go, now buy it.

This phone is Sensational.

That was a bad pun.

The puns would've been the same if it was the Incredible haha.. I'm sure HTC name their phones like that on purpose!

Has anyone had this notification icon appear and know what I need to do to get rid of it permanently? Is it an issue with my SIM? Only started appearing after I had to get a new one.

Also I have to say the Apps to SD issue with Sense is a little frustrating.

What Apps to SD issue?

I've never seen that notification icon looks strange.

lokhor: What Apps to SD issue?

Home screen shortcuts of Apps that are on the SD card become generic android icons after a reboot. Thought it may have been an issue at my end but a quick search found it to be a bit more of an issue.

Also, I can't figure out how to use HTC watch for anything other than watching trailers...

I'm fairly certain that is a widespread Android issue, not a Sense one about the generic android icons. It happens on my SGS using Launcher Pro as well.

I am also unsure how to use HTC watch for full movies.

Here's the link I followed http://goo.gl/gkpMo for the details.

If I had it connected in Mass Storage i'd expect it but otherwise there should be the standard icon pictures.

NZtechfreak: Video up:

I was sold on the Sensation until I saw that. Is it possible that this huge disparity will be fixed on the HTC with an update?

Great video NZTechFreak. What's up with the stuttering? Since they both have similar specs, it must be due to the software?

HTC seem to have always supported the mp4 format mostly. Just from quickly looking at NZTechfreak's video again, the HTC has trouble with high bitrate maybe?. In general, the HTC's video playback performance would suffice for most people who watch the videos recorded on the handset as well as perhaps grabbing flash video from sites like Youtube.

What is the playback like via a 3rd party video player?

He was using Dice Player which is hardware accelerated and supports more formats than the HTC Sensation stock media player does.

Watch as a service isn't available in many parts of the world, including NZ (obviously), so what you get with the app is a reflection of that. Telecom NZ will need to confirm this but it seems that HTC intend it to be available here. As it's a paid service, it would likely have a fairly limited potential audience I suspect.

Sadly its not the software - its to do with the choice of SoC. The Exynos is the only one of the dual-cores capable of playing high-profile video. I have a Tegra device at home in my tablet, so can talk about all three SoC's - if I were to rank them for video playback it would be like this: Exynos >>>>>> Sensations Qualcom SoC > Tegra II.

As mentioned I was using a third party player - Dice Player on both handsets. The HTC stock player can play hardly any of the test files, so what you see is as good as it gets (for now at any rate).

Check the blog piece, it has a lot more information including the Media Info dumps for each of the test files used - http://blog.clove.co.uk/2011/07/06/htc-sensation-review-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-video-playback-shootout/

Its important to note that these files were meant to be demanding - the Monster's Inc clip has a video bitrate of 9500kbps - my laptop can't play that file in a watchable fashion! Bearing that in mind the Sensation result is still quite impressive, and for most videos it will do just fine (the only real application for watching those HD videos is if you're outputting via MHL or streaming over DLNA).

Regarding the sound - there is an app called Volume+ (or something like that) that people are saying helps the loudspeaker volume. I'll try it and see how much it helps, but I can't imagine that it will bring the Sensation speaker to parity with the SGSII speaker.
