Smartphone Use I thought this data would interest some people as it touches on the topic immediately above. This is the ComScore MobiLens research and is the most current info for Europe, the market that's closest to NZ in habits. As far as I can tell, there's no NZ-specific data available unless you pay for it. The figures represent the proportion of smartphone users engaging in those activities and cover the most recently analysed quarter. Photography - 57.5% Social networking - 18.0% Gaming - 25.3% Recording video - 26.1% Listening to music - 25.0% Watching TV and/or video - 5.7% The TV/Video numbers are significantly lower than the other activities. I don't have numbers for the previous quarters so I don't know how it's trending, but in my estimation, it'll be growing. Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation running Jelly Bean 4.1.1, alpha AOSP ROM, on Telecom XT. Rough around the edges but showing much potential considering it's pre-beta. My daily driver now.

Interesting information, GSMarena had a similar survey a while back that was really illuminating too (http://www.gsmarena.com/mobile_phone_usage_survey-review-592p12.php) About 40% watch video daily, and of those about 15% watch video daily (from the infographic, so percentages are best guess, they don't differentiate what kind of video - mostly youtube I expect). Another 10% say they would watch video on their device if they could. Watching video streaming via DLNA or cable was rated "not needed" by 45% (I guess most of the remaining group in the infographic), but interestingly 20% of people rated it the "most missed" feature (second only to video calling). Yep, video consumption on mobile devices is going to increase dramatically over the netx few years, but bearing that in mind, you need to actually have a use case for it. If you travel a lot like TalkieT or have long commutes, I can see that being a big part of viewing. I guess there are people who would use it in the same manner as they may have watched TV in bed. For me, I like to unwind when in bed and prefer to read. I don't have a big commute and walking to work means I listen to audiobooks or music instead. Absolutely agree with NZTF - making a purchase without analysis of current usage and intended usage is not a good thing to do. On a completely unrelated note - are there any micro SD cards beyond 32GB or is that the current maximum (or absolute maximum?)

The difference between the surveys is that GSMArena is canvassing responses from its highly tech-focussed readership while ComScore's results reflect the smartphone using population at large. As they say themselves, "And while the results can most probably apply to mobile phone enthusiasts all over the world they are hardly accurate as far as the whole world population is concerned. The thing is you, our faithful audience, are not exactly the average phone users. Being so informed and passionate about cell phones (why would you else be here reading all those long reviews) you tend to spend more time with your phone and use most of the features." lokhor: Damn you I want the new version! After noticing your sig just now about XT's blazing fast network. I had to top up the sim from my T stick today so thought i'd put it in the sensation to do it. And got pretty good speeds, not the fastest i've seen, but the fastest i've got out at my work. Not bad, considering i was relying on 2100 only.
