well after updating phone software to 1.35.707.1 the phone seems to be behaving.  However it is still slower than my desirehd and battery doesnt last anywhere near as long.  I cant get a day out of it and there is just idle not doing anything. Then it takes 6 to 8 hours to charge depending how flat it is.

Foo: Does this link seem a fair representation of your experience(s) of battery usage on the Sensation? I realise that it's been updated, but keen on thoughts.

I've been getting through the day with plenty to spare. Using WiFi most of the time. But generally pretty good. Charging daily isn't a concern for me as it is something i've gotten used to with my HTC Surround. It'd be nice to have the power of the Atrix but can survive without.

That sounds faulty, it takes me less than 3hrs to charge from empty to full.

Send it back. There's obviously a fault, either firmware or hardware, and I suspect the latter.

Bummer that your experience has been so poor.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Now using Galaxy S3. Eagerly awaiting release of the Note 3.

It seems you may have some of the same issues as Tech Radar had with the link I posted earlier.

ArtooDetoo:

It's going to depend on how you use it, that's for sure.

Unless I'm hammering it (shooting video and playing it back. playing audio continuously, shooting and viewing stills etc), the battery is lasting all day. It's going on charge in the evening (11pm-ish) and back on battery around 7am each day. There are times when it doesn't make it, normally when I'm heavily testing for instance, but with my 'normal' use, it's getting through the day until bedtime. That's probably what you'd expect of a dual core phone running at 1.2GHz with a 960x540 display and a battery the same capacity as you'd find on a phone with a single core, running slower and with a smaller display.

Which brings up a salient point - why is the Sensation's battery not a larger capacity? The aftermarket will no doubt take care of that need, but HTC could do well to make it available.

Your link reveals that the original hardware tested had a higher power consumption than the later model that they received, the latter getting through the day with 30% remaining. So I'd say "yes" to your original question that the replacement Sensation's performance certainly fairly represents my experience.

Unless I'm caning it of course. :-)

It sounds like you are getting better battery life from it when compared to my HTC Desire, so that is a positive in my book.

Now I'm reading: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/htc-sensation-vs-samsung-galaxy-s2-961874 and will then move on to Murray's posts. I think I'm swaying towards HTC purely for cost reasons.

lokhor: @Foo - what do you think of Sense UI?

I immediately want to say that I quite like it, however I do use Launcher Pro, so I guess I lose a lot of the Sense functionality due to this.

The main reason I started using Launcher Pro was to fit more icons onto screens and I think I noticed a bit of a speed boast.

I've had a play with the Samsung Galaxy and have to say I don't really like it, but from everything I've read, the SGS II is far and away superior. Once again, using a different launcher might help in that regard.

I have to say this is one thing that surprised me with the higher res screen I would've thought a larger grid on the homescreens would've been standard.

I used Launcher Pro on my SGS and really liked it a lot better than TouchWiz. So far with the HTC Sensation I've tried Launcher Pro once and ended up going back to Sense. Did you read my post on Sense UI 3.0?

It's funny you should mention that, I've got that exact page open for me to have a read when I get a spare moment.

Got my update the other day, thanks.

And as for a case, I got one from a local place, it's pretty nice, I don't mind it at all

Pics taken from camera, with case on phone - note it has holes for the little holes in the phone

It's the clear one.
