I haven't looked too much into the link, but is this just because they do't ship to NZ, or the international shipping is a rip off? I have a brother in Florida, I normally get things sent to, shipping from him is SO much cheaper, than any retailer! Bit of both tbh, lots of places don't ship to NZ and others the shipping is quite pricey (16USD) for something that weighs 30g. lokhor:Bit of both tbh, lots of places don't ship to NZ and others the shipping is quite pricey (16USD) for something that weighs 30g. Probably because it's a Battery

On both VF and XT I usually sit around the 100ms mark. Where are these pings to? The Download speeds are consistently higher than what I get on my VF sensation however. And when I loaded my XT sim into the sensation last week, first Speedtest I did was around the 4,000 mark, but with a ping of 71ms.

It could just be that server, I'm seeing similar results if I use that server on XT, from Auckland though. 119ms on VF to the same server though.

lokhor: 100ms to Auckland server. By default it was using Wellington. Also 6507kbps down just now with 899kbps up. That's nice! Don't won't people getting the wrong idea about the phone or the network. Sometimes I will get around 5000kbps with VF, but it's really quite inconsistent, especially compared to XT. Unfortunately Ookla haven't done an App for my XT WP7 yet for better comparison, so i can only check on the 2100 band.

For sure. The speeds have been pretty impressive for me, with no outages or noticeable congestion. Here are the results from the cellular black hole that is my home... SENSATION ON XT 3G Best 2550 down - 934 up - 80ms ping Worst 2492 down - 714 up - 92ms ping 10 tests, IIRC. Got better results in the city, but don't have them with me. Edit: city update Here are the best results from the city... SENSATION ON XT 3G Best 6762 down - 1727 up - 73ms ping GALAXY S ON VF 3G Best 3241 down - 1509 up - 80ms ping Don't remember the number of runs but probably doesn't matter. Any help? Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation running Jelly Bean 4.1.1, alpha AOSP ROM, on Telecom XT. Rough around the edges but showing much potential considering it's pre-beta. My daily driver now.

Hi All I have enjoyed reading all the posts so far the the HTC sensation. I brought one from Clove and I am currently in the UK on O2. I found in the weekend when I was recording a video at a concert that the sound was really distorted ( couldn't handle the bass on playback on the phone and my laptop). Has anyone else come across this yet?

Well considering how small the speaker is, I wouldn't be surprised that it can't handle low frequency sounds. I'm sure it will sound better through good earphones or speakers.

scoobydoo, I have already tried playing the video though my Bose headphones and on a normal stereo system and the sound is still distorted.

Latency figures from the speedtest.net app are have to be taken with a grain of salt over a 3G connection. While a UE is connected to the network there are various states that the data connection is in. If a phone is in idle or CELL_PCH then it's effectively "asleep" on the network and only listening for paging messages. In this state it is connected to the REL99 3G network. Once the phone wakes up (ie you want to use data) the state changes but if this data is low bandwidth (such as ICMP pings) it won't be enough to force a state change to HSPA/HSPA+ so the phone will stay in REL99 mode. In REL99 ~300ms pings are typical. Once the phone decides it needs more radio resources for faster speeds it's state will change and it'll move to a HSPA/HSPA+ channel, where ping times will drop to ~100ms (or less) and data speeds are faster. Once the devices decides the HSPA/HSPA+ connection is no longer required it will idle back to REL99 again to save both network and UE battery resources. The problem with speedtest.net is that the ping is the first test performed. If the phone has been in an idle state it will typically not be enough to transition it to a HSPA/HSPA+ channel and therefore latency will be ~300ms. Likewise with the speed tests HSPA/HSPA+ "ramps up" over time. Because the connection state changes from REL99 to HSPA/HSPA+ once the test starts the short length of the test can also result in stats that can often be less than real world performance. For fairness it's also worth noting that 2degrees don't have HSUPA enabled on their network so 384kbps is the maximum upstream speed. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand?
