I did it just by the normal route. Go online and follow tutorials on how to s-off, root etc and you should do it no problem. Tons of info on xda forums. I am using the Vituous Inquisition ROM and it works perfectly.

lchiu7:How hard is it to flash ICS on the Telecom Sensation?

I'm a lazy guy at the moment. The stock ROM works well and updating OTA works for me.

If a phone has a specific issue that requires me to root it and flash something else....I'm in like a robber's dog. But if it's all sweet and just works...I stay stock just for the ease of upgrading....whenever.

Just out of curiosity I rang HTC support to see when and/or if my 710a would get ICS and their reply was "we don't know, we have no information at this time" Very disappointing.

OK. I have taken the plunge and S-OFF and Rooted a friend's HTC Sensation using Revolutionary. I took a Nandroid backup of the stock ROM.

Now I am ready to try out one of the ICS ROMs out there and Insert Coin seems to be well recommended.

Is it just a matter of downloading the ROM, copying to the SD Card and then using CWM Recovery to install the ROM?  Or did I miss something there?

Thanks

You need to flash 3.32 firmware(you can download it from XDA forum) before flashing ICS rom. Can you please send me a copy of the stock rom back? Thanks.

How do I know what firmware I have now?

Looking at this thread

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298

has now given me cold feet!  I thought I could just install the ICS ROM but it appears now.

Once you have S-off'd your phone you can use any firmware update they supply. If you were not S-off'd you would have to get a carrier specific firmware update, but since you are S-off'd it does not matter.

My mistake, super-CID is what I meant. Cheers for the correction!

Well fair enough! A working phone is always better than one that doesn't work!

I didn't follow this guide but some others and now my phone is rooted, S-Off and has CID 11111111.

Presumably now I can flash any ICS ROM and don't need to flash the PG58IMG.zip file, the reason for which isn't entirely clear to me.

You will still have to flash a PG58IMG.zip because it's the latest firmware and ICS will just boot-loop without it, but you can pick any of them.
