freitasm:
vinnieg: At least they are handling it well. As long as they fully refund you and offer to pay the return shipping too

They are not. Getting the goods back, and sending to the supplier will just make them sell the same things somewhere else. They should be used as evidence.

But, you can see how much an international investigation would cost and why law enforcement wouldn't even bother...

That's true actually, Streetbitz would be best to just refund all, get the supplier refund or take a loss on the product.

On seeing the photos of the said "Memory card"  imo it's looking less and less likely that Streetbitz were "accidentally" involved.  If they were realistic about selling goods, they shoudl first obtain samples from the respective suppliers.  And if they received memory cards in this packaging, why did they ship them out in the first place?

Quick edit:
Looking at their website they are doing quite a few things wrong:
- Not allowing you to view the website without signing up the newsletter...SPAM act maybe?

Previous deals which are counterfeit:
 - GReddy BOV - $140 (Aliexpress $24.99) - could get stuck causing boost/vacuum leaks.  Potential to stuff up turbine
 - Tomei FPR -  $110 ($17.21) - potential to lean out the engine, causing massive damage
- Samurai Shark - $19($2.19 a piece) - knife sharpener where your hand is directly under it while sharpening...
- SARD FPR - $110($15.99 a piece) - again, potential to cause massive engine damage
- HKS Turbo timer $99($20 a piece) - not too much danger here, just a standard timer

Think I'll include this in a report to the ComCom, who were very quick to respond to me last time :)

With most of those car parts above, they could have even put "Replica" or "Greddy COPY".  At least people would know of the dangers of using cheap copied parts.

Family friend on my wifes side, was developing BOVs, had a good product, offered it to a large well known auto shop, who promptly sold it as their own, and marketed the friends name onto some cheap Chinese copy, giving him a bad name... he pulled the plug on the deal and hasnt bothered with the auto market since AFAIK which is a pity because he was an onto it guy...

Wow, they couldn't even be bothered making decent fake packaging... at least the ones that sold me the fake SanDisk Compact Flash cards on Trademe a few years ago went to the effort of getting the packaging right.

My SanDisk and packaging looked a bit like the ones here:
http://martybugs.net/articles/fakesandisk.cgi

Not easy to tell and in my case at least the card stored the correct amount, but most likely would have failed any speed comparison.

Memory cards are probably the easiest and most often faked product out there. If the deal sounds too good to be true....

I got some fake Kicker speakers a few years ago on Trademe. Packaging and looks were all good, just found a few slight irregularities in terms of clarity and fake barcode.

Managed to get a full refund, kept the old crappy speakers, plus Kicker NZ came to the party and offered me their latest model at the price I paid for the counterfeit ones :)

I think the owner of the grab a deal website must know that he/she was/is importing fake products, anyone with a common sense would do a bit of research before buying any product at super low prices, let alone importing them at bulk.

Fair Go I say!

Yeah I've pinged a seller on trademe for selling fake 32 and 64 GB thumb drives he was advertising them as using compression algorithms to enable such a large capacity ROFL yeah right, atleast Tradme staff did the right thing and pulled all the auctions and emailed those that had bought these items advising them and closed the traders account

LennonNZ: Sigh.. I wouldn't trust this website....

http://grab-a-deal.co.nz/index.php/frontend/campaigns/single/101/15-for-a-Power-Balance-Energy-Band-...

Power Bands .. a scam..

http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/world/4513596/Power-Balance-bracelets-a-scam
+ many more links regarding them..

To be fair, anyone who is dumb enough to believe the claims of these things probably deserves to be bilked, they might learn a lesson if it was for the placebo effect.

Even the company that created the "real" item admitted they were hokum. They didn't stop selling them though, and making a fortune from thousands of gullible fools.

Surely there is no way this company truly believes that their products are all legitimate, it certainly looks like they are being deliberately misleading, hopefully the comcom comes down on them hard if this is the case.

(Edited to remove direct claims of fraudulent behavior...)

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

As a bit of a followup - Grab-A-Deal/Streetbiz sent my refund promptly, and I subsequently purchased a Sandisk 32GB Class 4 MicroSDHC from Digitaltek.co.nz for $114.45 including shipping.

Arrived today, and this time has passed testing with flying colours (despite not coming in retail packaging).

CrystalDiskMark results:

Seq: 20.12 MB/s read, 6.586 MB/s write
512k: 19.67 MB/s read, 1.999 MB/s write
4k: 3.696 MB/s read, 1.356 MB/s write
4K QD32: 3.357 MB/s read, 1.212 MB/s write

Recommended.
