So, you mean that like lots of other things, this is another buggy Google service?

So, you mean that like lots of other things, this is another buggy free Google service? I suppose I am also able to report any bugs I find to the appropriate channels and they will be resolved very quickly. I also bet that many other providers of free services have buggy software but their support might be worse than Google.

I actually think - and know - Google support is pretty bad.

KevinL:

The android youtube application will inexplicably play the wrong video - the description/comments/etc are correct, but the video that plays is incorrect.  Toggling from HD to SD will play the correct video (and toggling back to HD will play the correct video in HD).  Often the same 'wrong' video will play for any video selected (at the present time for me, it is Antony Worral Thompson cooking scrambled eggs... and now it is Spongebob).

It doesn't happen when I am signed out of the youtube application, nor does it seem to happen when I am on a 3G connection.  It also doesn't happen from the youtube website via the browser.  It is easily reproducible on my Samsung SGS2 and ASUS Transformer which share the same account.

I've been unable to track down the cause - I wonder if it has something to do with ISP caching (I'm with slingshot) or DNS/port settings, or has something to do with the google account - pain in the arse, really.

Cool. I was going to do a bit of research on how to 'enforce' the correct YouTube video selection.
Mine defaulted to some Indian soapy every now and then which is... just wrong.

Using WiFi via Telecom NZ on a Sony Ericsson X10i with Gingerbread 2.3.3 and it does seem like some sort of caching issue

By toggling the HD setting on the video it does indeed 'enforce' the correct video.

At least now I can watch SassiBob's 'sparkling' and insightful thoughts on Android phones and that's got to be a win/grin. Wink

For what it's worth, I have submitted a help ticket (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=6ed9190d03eaf20d&hl=en) and a helpful Google employee has requested and passed on my logcat data to the dev team.  Hopefully it gets to the right people.

Not a fix by any sense of the term, but at least they appear to be trying...

I'm getting an eastern European soap powder adverts at the moment. Surprised

It's all quite exciting really.

Just to recap, if one watches a youtube video via WiFi on a broadband service, the video requested is supplanted with a random video.

As suggested here, I toggle the HD setting and it reloads the original video.

This seems to only occur when using broadband via WiFi.
If one is using a 3G service this problem doesn't seem to exist.

My broadband(WiFi) is via Telecom NZ
My 3G service is via Vodafone NZ.

Was just browsing the Galaxy S II owners thread and saw a post directing to this thread.

I've experienced the same problem on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 using Wifi. Wrong videos being played on YouTube. I just avoid watching videos on my tablet these days because of that and the general lagginess.
