Yes that's the top of the Novo range. IPS screen basically just means it holds the colours much better at different angles. Given that may be how you use a tablet, in bed, on the couch etc it sounds like a worth addition for just $20 more. The Elf and Aurora have the higher res screen too.

All of these units have come in quite below initial price estimates which is really good. The modern update of the original Advanced model is the last one to be priced so hopefully that will be really cheap! It doesn't have a rear camera any more but gets a 2MP front camera instead of the older 0.3MP one.

Problems are still going to be, does it have the Android Market installed, will they get Android software updates, will the device have good keys for the Android Market, meaning will all apps be available/compatible etc. Can you get Skype going on it etc.

The only thing I'm holding back for now is that Onda Vi40 Elite model, which may be around the $300 mark, hopefully!, and offers IPS screen at 9.7" size and a higher res again as well. This plus all these newer Ainol models are a standard chipset too, rather than the MIPS one. There looks to be a lot of tablets coming with these newer specs which is good, and hopefully you can pick the cream of the crop and avoid the duds, unsupported units and sellers etc.

How are those who purchased the Huawei Ideos S7 Slim units finding them, now they've had them a while?

For $199 it does what I want. Not perfect, but does the job all the same.

Would like to put a custom ROM on it, but there's very little around and nothing that looked like it would be worth the hassle.

Very happy with it for the price and I have local support etc if anything goes wrong. Would not have paid $499 for it though, that's for sure.

Figured I had better post since I previously stated I ordered a Paladin. I have had 2 successful orders for Novo 7 Paladin's now, both were shipped via UPS for $140ish NZD and arrived at my address in less than a week for both orders.

Was about what I expected, the main issue was the processor severely limiting the app choice available, which I already knew. Surprisingly good at playing videos and ICS seemed to work pretty flawlessly, the browser was also impressive and it's probably the first time on android I haven't wanted to install a 2nd party app. Touch screen was capacitive as advertised and responded well to touches, only 2 point multi touch but unless you are playing some pretty intense games I can't see that as being an issue. Build quality was pretty decent, plastic casing but felt solid in hand.

I've come to the conclusion if you need a 7" tablet for video playback and web-browsing this is a good choice but if you're looking for app compatibility it's better to stay away. Some of the new offerings from Ainol may be better suited for apps though so I will be interested in hearing other people that have ordered some of the new range views.

This is the second tablet I have owned after the HP Touchpad and I sold that after a few weeks, things haven't changed with this purchase, I own a SGS II, laptop and kindle touch. Once again I decided I don't use a tablet enough to justify keeping it around, so I listed it on Trademe. Same day I listed it I sold it so no trouble with resale at the moment.

Just a brief overview of the Ainol Novo 7 Paladin, ainol seem to be releasing new models thick and fast so this is probably out of date already, but hope it might help someone!

Glad I didn't get that OEM Advanced Ainol unit:

Pandawill:
Note: Hell all. The firmware for the advanced can't be used to the OEM version after users feedback and our test, which differed from what the manufacturer said before. Sorry for the previous mistake. Check the latest firmware on our forum pls. Sincerely apologize for that.

I saw this thread a slatedroid earlier today which discusses/explains the google market and apps non-appearance in certain android devices:

http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/27974-fyi-market-and-gapps-are-never-a-part-of-the-os/

A google search on "pandawill coupons" or other shopping portal name (aliexpress - 5% and 10% off, for example) has provided good results - often via the retailmenot discount coupon site.

I saw another thread which stated that the pandawill discount coupon ("pw1234") expired yesterday or the day before, although I have not confirmed it myself.
