Hi guys
i need bit of hand installing official firmware on my phone (I9000) please. am currently on 2.3.3 and want to go up to 2.3.6. seems this has some updates related to camera and hoping this fixes some issues i've.
I altried Kies but kept saying i've the latest.

looks like samfirmwares website has list of firmwares we can download from.
1) i found some instructions on the web , any one tried with this and accurate ? (http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/08/08/how-to-install-firmware-on-samsung-galaxy-s2-with-odin-video/)

2) on samfirmwares i see quite a few entries which one i download ? (am on vodafone network)

BTW am not looking into isntalling custom ROM as i find instructions quite complicated and seems many of them come with some known issues.
Thanks for the advise.

Have a wonderful Happy Christmas.

Was your phone sourced via vodafone - ie its an 'official' VF NZ phone - or is it a parallel import that you bought and are running on Vodafone.

If its a VF sourced phone (from VF or an official outlet) then the message you get about having the latest means that VF havent released anything later than 2.3.3.

If you have a parallel import phone then the currently installed firmware will not identify itslef as being VF firmware - so if VF do release an upgrade your phone wont be eligible for it.

Maybe you know all this anyway.

Have you tried connecting to a wifi connection and checking if you can use the Settings/About Phone/Software Update/Update menu option?

EDIT - I have a parallel imported Ace with 2.3.3 and  as much as I would like to upgrade it means going down the ODIN/Samfirmware path which puts me off somewhat..... The android update system is not great.

I bought from noel leeming so i assume its official VF NZ phone. Yes i already tried Settings/About Phone/Software Update/Update menu option but same message that am already on latest.

in some other thread i found that people who bought from heathcote got 2.3.6 !!! i thought i get that too but looks like thats not the case.

There is a camera firmware update for S2 in the Samsung store, which allegedly contains an update to enable autofocus in video:

http://www.samsungapps.com/topApps/topAppsDetail.as?productId=G00000909578

Also, seems samsung may have released a similar update for the S in some regions. There are unofficial links around.

[Edit: but check the store from your phone]

gzt, i found galaxys2 firmware on samsung apps but not anything particular to galaxy s. App description says its only for "I9100, I9100L, I9100T, I9100G, I9108, M250S, M250K and N033"

i searched internet and found only link for i9000 model ( http://www.emoiz.com/download-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-update-for-video-recording-with-autofocus ) . i dont see any comments and instructions refer v2.2.x so not sure if it screws up any thing since am on 2.3.3 and if there is a way to go back if something wrong.
