Rudder:
cokeman2: whare house stationary did not like me today , when i gave them the "norman ross " receipt proof didn't even want to see it...the manager rang up norman ross said the price of 797 doesn't exist advertised anywhere ...

next turn was for noel leemings

after nearly 30m of waiting he comes back (store manager)with a 810 best price we can do , i said to them, that's not 5% off as advertised said u will have to take it with head office.....

time to bitch and complain to head office

Goodluck dude. One of the conditions though is that both Warehouse Stationary at the other store have to have the product in stock. It might make it tricky

hmmm dont know, but they do it with pre orders stock they advertised that ....

Principles? :P Using price match policies on goods on pre-release special pricing that are arguably not the same item (2D vs XT vs VF sourced handset), at best consumers are exploiting loopholes

While people are securing a damned good phone at a stupidly low price all that is happening is potential resale and brand image is being eroded away. Compare the secondhand market and sell price of a 6mth old SGS2 vs 6mth old iP4s, there's a huge disparity. I know come iP5 time it will cost me a hell of a lot less to upgrade the wife's 4s than it did to upgrade my S2 this week

Amazing what people will worry about over $13 on a $1100 phone!

I don't think I have the time or energy to worry about such things any more.

and travel all over town and spend hours ringing around thinking their time costs nothing, but hey each to their own. I'm happy with $839 pre order for the blue and couldn't resist doing it at these prices

I paid much more for my S2 and it's still one of the best purchases I've made.

I'm chuffed with how cheap the S3's are, I actually feel a little sorry for the retailers, all round discounting and price matching isn't good in the long term, people moan about poor service and staff who are unhelpful, well, all this discounting and price matching means less money to hire good staff and usually involves ambivalent staff members (looking at you dick smith).

Anyway, I guess I was thinking the phone was going to be around 1200ish and if I liked it, I would have been happy to pay that, cheapskates :-)

semigeek: If anyone has theirs in a case, what sort of a case do you have?

Bought a MercuryAV case from Noelleeming

I bought one of those today, its not too bad, but I find it quite slippery. I have a leather Krussell case for my Galaxy S, so would like something like that, but not too bulky. I found a couple of good cases on Amazon UK, but they wont ship to NZ.

exactly. Everyone is getting a good price when you put it in perspective to last years prices. S2 cost me $1275 landed in NZ just over a year ago, (& another $125 for a 32GB micrSDHC card brought total to $1400). Current prices for a top end Galaxy device only days after its world wide release is a bargain whether it costs you a few dollars more than some one else or not.

You need to read the T&C's on their Best Price Guarantee carefully - Product must be in stock and must be from the same carrier. The phone is on high demand why would he want to discount the phone more than what Noel Leeming has?

Should be, I think it was billed as a Queen's Birthday Weekend sale.

Retailers got caught on the hop over the prices this weekend. According to the woman I spoke to at Noel Leeming customer services, they planned the 20% off Samsung part of their sale months ago and well before they knew the release date of the SGS3. They did not add the SGS3 to their catalogue or website because they didn't want to have to sell it at discount immediately after launch. However, even though they had to give 20% off to anyone who asked for it on the SGS3, their terms and conditions say this is " only while stocks last".

She said some stores overlooked these terms and took rain checks. They were not supposed to ever offer the blue ones at the discounted price as they never had stock of these while the sale was on. But some stores messed up.
With it being a long weekend they were having difficulty in getting head office to issue a notice to all their stores so, in effect, we all benefited because Noel Leeming stuffed up.

The other stores then got caught out with their price match policies. Most of those also have conditions about, "while stocks last". From what the guy at Warehouse Stationary told me yesterday, WHS was really unhappy about discounting down so low but once their stores started doing it the others pretty much had to follow suit. They didn't expect so many customers to know about the discount.

I think all of us who saved $100 or more on these phones got a damned good deal. We benefited from one chains oversight and good on all the other retailers who bit the bullet and matched prices.
