IronH: welcome to one of the flaws of AMOLED screens. It's a pretty common problem (google "AMOLED black splotches or blobs"). My S2 also had that issue though with only two splotches and was only visible in the dark with black backgrounds.

Yeah, the spots on my phone are pretty bad. Some long lines going across the screen. I'll try to get a replacement and hopefully there are no issues. Don't mind waiting.

Yeah this simply the glue.that being used unevenly. You may have an unlucky draw. My S2 got this on the edges and some small blobs when viewing black in the dark. But I doubt that you'd get a replacement from Samsung, you might be the lucky one to get a new one. :)
I hope my S3 won't be like this.

motorwayne: Is it just me or is the battery getting better and better with each charge.

Certainly feels that way.

Isn't that the whole idea of calibrating a battery in the first few days of getting it?  Helps improve batter life?

So you reckon I won't get a replacement? I mean its evidently defective, even if it is just glue.

Went back to WHS, they wanted me to get contact with Samsung for a ref number. I said I don't want to do that, so they will get in contact on behalf of me and see if they can get a replacement.

I really hope they don't come back and say that I need it to send it for repairs. Pretty sure under consumer rights I can ask for a replacement as it is within 7 days of the product being sold.

Gah what a hassle. Wonder if I should just go to Noel Leeming and order one, and ask for a refund at WHS.

At a guess I would expect a repair or replace at samsungs and/or whs descretion. Ive made a couple of warantee claims over the last 12 months and found it easiest to deal directly with the manufacturer, I have no experience with samsung tho. Dealing with the retailer just adds another level of communication difficulty. My advice - if you want it sorted today try whs (looks like this has failed already), if you actually want the problem sorted deal with samsung yourself! Might take a few days, or weeks if unlucky, but you'll get what you want! My experiences have shown the manufacturer does care what you think of the product, retailer treats you like a problem theyd rather not deal with. I'd be very careful buying another, might end up with 2!

Actually depending on how long you've had it, it probably falls under a DOA warranty which is replacement, but it will all depend on who you get etc.

Hmm well WHS have my phone, receipt and details. Hopefully get a call soon.

So do any of you new SGSIII owners have any issues similar to this?? Not talking about problems you may have had with your SII or other phones, but actually with an SIII.

Noel Leeming has a 30 day OBF replacement policy :) any issues or Out of Box Fault noticed they replace it and deal with samsung themselves, cause i asked my brother that and thats what he told me

EDIT: that being said, only a few people I know that work for NL i would actually trust, the company on the whole is rather backward when it comes to customer service..

It is your consumer rights. It was on Fair Go and i have dealt with a similar problem twice in the last two months. They replace it and then sort it out with Samsung.

Well, I too have finally taken the step and ordered myself a Samsung Galaxy S III.

It was here on this thread, I read about Noel Leeming having a sale with 20% of Samsung products, so I thought that sounded good...sure enough, I went into the store, they had none in stock but when I asked the sales attendant, they advised me they could pre-order, and I would still receive the 20% off discount...nice!

$839.20, down from $1049, nice.

The sale of my iPhone 4S will cover that in full.

Have been following S3 discussions for a few weeks. Want to thank you guys for the awesome deal I got on my S3. Have ordered a blue one from Noel Leemings with 20% discount and 12 months interest free no plans or contracts to tie me in. Cant wait to update from my 7 year old Nokia.
Cancelled my 2deg order for $799 S2 on $39/month plan weeks ago after reading about S3 through this forum.
Thanks again from a technophobe.

What'd you use to test it? I swear I noticed it a little bit while watching a video in bed the other day but put it down to the file rather than the display

Just search for a black image on Google, open it up in full screen, and have a look in a dark room for any smudges.

Alternatively, type *#0*# in the dialer and try the vibration test which shows you a completely black background.

It's a display problem if you can see marks in other than the video player eg. in menus, while booting etc.

I use an app called 'Screen Test' (funnily enough) by Amberfog. Available on the Play Store (free). It cycles through white black, the primary colours and then a series of gray scales and test patterns at the tap of the screen. Not much good if you are trying to test in the store though.
