own3d: Taking some getting use to
I've come from CM9 SGSII to stock ICQ on the SGSIII
Few things, what ROMs are people running (CM9 isn't out for SGSIII yet)
-How to?customise my dialpad to be like CM9's pad (dont like the iphone/basic dialpad)
-Make the background pan as you move between home screens
-Change transition style between home screens

Oh theres heaps of little things, I love CM9

That is not a problem at all. Just root the phone then copy apex launcher to system/app and set to rw-r--r-- (0644 permission) and ownership to root. Reboot and once started press home button and select apexlauncher as default. Start configure your transitions and styles. Now all Widgets will work properly. You can install without root but some touchwiz Widgets required root access which third party launcher couldn't without installing it into system app.

Now CM9 and official ROM is the same.

Is anyone here running a custom ROM/kernel yet?  I see both Wanamlite and Abyss are out. . . . .

Life is mostly froth and bubble, two things stand like stone - kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own.

SGSIII
ROM: WanamLite v1.3    Kernel: Ninphetamine v1.1.0   Modem: DXLEA

SGSII (Now belongs to SWMBO)
ROM: WanamLite v12     Kernel: Siyah v3.3.2   Modem: BVLPB

SGS
 (Cat's chew toy)

If you need a download-mode jig ASAP, you're welcome to borrow mine!  Works with SGS I/II/III.  I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

networkn: How do you set your default device in the play store, and also how do you remove apps you never want to install again from the my apps area in the play store? I want to just have the ones I actually use in there now. I have about 12 pages of them and each new device I want to load apps onto is a pain.

Simply uninstalled the app from your phone and then next time you set up your phone it won't be downloading again.
Another way is to skip the Google account setup until later. Then manually installing those apps you want and do not set to automatic updating. That is what I did and never again need to suffer the apps I never use lol

What are the benefits of customROM? CustomGapps? With StockROM this good then I don't even bother with customROm until it is way better than stock. Root your phone and remove bloat ware and boom you have a customROM of your own. You can then backup NAND and deodexed then zip aligned. CustomROM is buggy.

Anyone having issues with touchwiz?

Several times a day I get an error message advising touchwiz has stopped working and I have to do a power cycle to get things back to normal.

Some application you installed crashing your touchwiz launcher. I see that with all launchers when a buggy application I installed from Play store crashed the launcher. I'm off to bed. I will let someone else answering your questions lol or wait until I get my S3 for NL

I'm running Omega 4.2. It's a 600+MB download with some of the Samsung (and Telecom!) bloat removed, but still uses Touchwiz. It's got a few little fixes (autobrightness etc) and everything seems to work OK - no bugs I have found that I could attribute to the ROM in any instance.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656

Whilst very happy with the stock ROM, custom ROMs tend to have bugs and niggles updated more regularly. You're also not reliant on the vendor fixing or modding stuff. I also didn't like the fact I had a Telecom branded phone (the boot logo), but I'm on 2 Degrees.

And hey - Android's all about choice (as opposed to iLocked-in)!

there is totally no point in CM9 or custom roms on the S3 ... or hell on the S2 even.

what amazing CM9 feature out weighs s-beam?  smart stay,  the stock S3 cam? ..etc etc ..

just get a new launcher and be done with it.

Glad to see that for you there's totally no point, but as mentioned the point for me is as simple (and picky) as getting rid of the Telecom boot logo. Something not achieved with simply a new launcher, sadly. I guess I could hunt down and swap out the logo graphic, but to be honest, it's easier just to flash the ROM.

It might be a minor point, or even a moot point, but it certainly doesn't fit the category of "totally no point". If you add the rejoinder "for me" to your sentence, I'm right with you.

They add features and abilities to the phone, and often extend it's useful life. I personally like the call recording feature, as it allows me to take notes from clients. I have been putting custom firmware on smartphones since the HTC Harrier and I get great enjoyment from it.

I think you should keep such stupid sweeping assertions to yourself.

ok maybe a bit of a sweeping statement .. but some times i think people rush to custom where in fact they are actually trowing away alot more functionality than they gain.

if you go custom you also loose all the all share apps ... bye bye all share dongle etc etc..

good bye bust mode stock cam , buddy share etc etc

as for call recording ..why not just download callrecorder?    off the playstore ...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skvalex.callrecorder&hl=en

to be fair i have this installed but never actually bothered to use it...but i'm sure there are others..

No you don't, if you don't want to.

Rubbish. I am running a custom rom on my SG3 and not only do I have burst mode, I have faster normal mode.

Why have another app installed when I can just replace the standard dialer with one that has it built in? Free?

Look, you are entitled to keep as much bloat and useless apps on your phone as you like. Truly, I am happy for you. But please don't come in here and tell all of us we are somehow stupid because we choose power and flexibility over your buddy share apps.

Because that is how it sounded to me.

i think CM9 is fine in say situations where stock firmware is either not up to speed ... or lagging behind in updates.

thats not the case with either the S2 or S3 ... samsung where leaking stock roms to the xda forums regurally for the S2 ..and the S3 is launching on the latest version of ICS you can find, hell it's got it before some GN's out there.

and even when thats not the case ... custom isn't all it's cracked up to be in many cases.

galaxy tab 10.1 for eg ...still no sign of ICS .... i've run CM9 on that thing for a while .. and sure having chrome is nice.  but there's so many problems and quirks still ..not to even mention you loose camera function completely ...have to rely on a 3rd party app to replace the broken vpn functionality .. etc etc..

i guess i'me making a point of difference between roms based on stock .. and things like CM9 ..
