Bhavicp: Hi Guys,

How do i put apps (mostly big games) onto the external SD card?

I think I can help :)
send me your backup game installer GameLoft.apk and I'll rebuild it to make it drop the data into external instead. I got it working on my S2 but haven't tried it on S3 because I have not had it.

But I think you guys do not need my help.

i used a app a while back  that would tell u if it could move it to the  ex sd card  i think was sum-thing like apps to sd  was free and it moved the games .... search on Google play sure sum-thing good be out there , be pointless if we all get big 64gb cards then we still have to install  near 2gb data files in internal  :(

So....has another thread been made yet, dedicated solely for Samsung Galxy S III tips, hacks, etc etc?

I have gone through the pain of taking time to read this entire thread, 174 pages, and have found it mostly a waste of time as just speculation, people waiting on orders and or talking about accesories....only a couple good posts about software/firmware and hacks etc...mostly by NZtechfreak as usual...

Having said that, nothing wrong with the chatter and banter taking place here, so please no one be offended, but this thread is far too long and lacking usefull information about software/firmware and hacking etc...I think we need a dedicated thread for it.

I guess it's a matter of what your expectations are of Geekzone - I've been around for a while with the original Galaxy S and SII, and the threads for those are pretty massive too.  To my way of thinking, you need to put in the time here helping others and getting help yourself.  In other words, reciprocity.  XDA is (was. . .) founded on the same principles - a community of like-minded (slightly obsessive) geeks that put in the hours.

Certainly not having a crack at you Euan - my point is that any thread would become massive and parts of it obsolete; you start talking about Eclair, and Froyo comes out. . . then Gingerbread. . . .then ICS etc etc.  But if you're prepared to stick around and contribute to the greater good, the size of the thread becomes pretty irrelevant.

I can hack the binary of the .apk file to make it install into MicroSD card if you need my help. Send me a PM then we can talk in private box instead of flooding this thread. Success rate could be 50% but depend on the game binary, you'll need to decompiled the apk and change the directory string to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd then recompile it back. This will trigger the application to download/read the data on external_sd instead of internal_sd.

If that is not useful info then nothing else I can do :) I can offer the service but cannot guarantee that it will work. I have no S3 to test with at the moment.

Things will start to follow a little more in the next few days. Another thread would just add clutter.

This morning my internal SD was basically 100% full and I couldn't update apps (as expected), but I also couldn't 'refresh' my email (gmail!). I had to delete NOVA to be able to view my emails in bed =[

m.gmail.com is surprisingly crap. I remember using it a while ago on my ipod and it used to be fine, but this morning it took a least 10 seconds  to archive 1 email.

This is the reason why 16GB internal (11GB Available) isn't enough now a day. This is why I ordered the 32GB version. People just don't see the reason behind the bigger internal somewhat.

It wouldn't be a issue if Google didn't prevent (or fix the "bug") moving apps to the external SD. Most of my used space is currently music which I'd like to have on my external. But it's downloaded via Spotify so i can't force it currently.

Yes I hope this will be fixed in JellyBean Android. I remembered the good old S60v2 Symbian :) it asked me everytime I installing applications.

But I think if you convert the MicroSD to ext4 then move your data across, create a symlink folder to your -> mnt/sdcard then you should have no problem.

Only problem with that is if you take your MicroSD out and try to use it in a card reader Windows won't be able to use it.
