IntegerIsNumber: Yep Vodafone ROM is the same as international. But that won't mean that you'd receiving update the same time :)

True - funny thing is that the 2degrees ROM has a CSC I've never seen before?

Life is mostly froth and bubble, two things stand like stone - kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own.

If you need a download-mode jig ASAP, you're welcome to borrow mine!  Works with SGS I/II/III.  I also have a SIM cutter available (Dunedin) - happy to post either to you at your cost.

Neets: Thought I'd give an update on flashing the Vodafone NZ ROM.

The only CSC included is KOR. There's no Vodafone CSC. ?I think that's odd.

The other thing of note, when I?flashed?using Odin, it did not wipe my phone. It booted up looking exactly the same. I know it flashed since the list of CSC's changed.

You'll have to do a factory reset, either before or after wont matter. ?

It's only after I factory reset that the Device Status changed from "modified" to "normal". ?And it took a long time to register that it was "normal".

I guess you need a bit more research. Vodafone ROM has nothing to do with carrier branding and the only difference is the modem. Everything else s the same as international ROM.
Telecom ROM may be had some carrier branding inside csc and few apps modded. Oh and start up animation.

I'm always learning new things. I'm sharing my experience :)

2degrees has their own CSC, it's reasonable to expect other carriers might also, and have in the past, as mentioned.

Following on, the Google Play store includes a section for Vodafone recommended applications, similar to you see for "Staff picks" and "Editor's Choice".  This is different to the 2degrees ROM - we have 2 2degrees S3's in the house, so I compared.

2degrees had their own settings in the stock browser.

The other difference I've noticed is that when I used my chosen browser (ICS Browser +) which defaulted to the Google NZ search page, whatever I entered would always look at local pages.  Using the same browser (also on Google.co.nz) on the Voda ROM appears to provide results from  US/UK/Europe sites first, it's not until you type 'n' that it brings up possible sites, like NYC, NSW and New Zealand.

So despite no VNZ CSC, I think they have managed to get a little bit of customisation in the Google Play app, like what IntergerIsNumber suggested.

OK - using Market-enabler (http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/) I can install Google Play Movies (on a rooted phone) but when I try to purchase/rent anything it asks to complete the action using a web browser or the play store. Selecting play store does nothing and a web broswer comes up with:

"Sorry! Movies on Google Play is not available in your country yet.
We're working to bring the content you love to more countries as quickly as possible.
Please check back again soon." (https://play.google.com/store/movies?hl=en)

A way around this ??

Was about to mention that, the Vodafone model does have customisations applied to it; just not to the same degree that Telecom has done.

Vodafone doesn't lock handsets.  As far as I know only Telecom locks Skinny handsets, no other telco locks handsets in NZ.

I dislike buying cases online, as I can't have a good look at them, and decide if I like the look and feel...

So, after checking out most of the cases available around the various retailers in Dunedin, I settled on a CaseMate Tough Case available from the Telecom store.

Fairly impressed, it's a good fit, and certainly gives the feeling it will protect the phone well. I like the grippiness in the hand, and it looks alright.

Should protect my new precious sufficiently, as I am known to forget to take it out of my pocket when out on site for work.

Looks nice, I'll see if my local Telecom shop has them in stock.

I actually wasn't going to use a case as never did on S2 but was in PBtexh yesterday and they had the Rock case quicksand available. Looked and felt good so bought one thus far pretty impressed. Bit expensive at over $40

I was the same to be honest - the S2 was a little more textured though, so never really felt that I was going to drop it. the S3 is a little more slippery though for some reason. Also, with the curved S3 screen, if it's face down the glass touches whatever surface you put it on.

I would have liked to try one of the Rock cases to be honest, but again, couldn't find any around town.
