Lambchop: just flashed I9300XXALF6 ... no issues so far, home button responsiveness seems improved as well ... mind you i've only just rebooted, but seems really snappy about bringing up the ics multitasker .

responsiveness will take leaps and bounds if you disable the double click to start S Voice. If you don't use it, it's an acceptable tradeoff.

nofam: I'm going to check if it's connecting to my laptop at work tomorrow (it was last week). ?If it is, then I'll rebuild my laptop. ?If it's not, I'll factory-reset my phone.

Oh the joys. . . . ?(Grumble grumble, no mass-storage USB mode grumble etc. . . )

You don't need to rebuild your laptop. Just go into the registry and delete the driver entry. Google is your friend.
It is located in HKLM system.

Well, it's not working on my work laptop now either, so it looks like a phone issue.  Will do a factory restore tonight.

How do you disable that double button to activate S-Voice ? I wasn't able to find it anywhere (Then again, evertime i look for a specific thing, i never can find it)

Hit the menu button when you are in S Voice, and scroll down a bit to find it.

Portable power pack/charger
Does anybody have a particular portable power pack/charger that they can recommend?
Would like to use this when out tramping
I have seen the  PowerGen Juice Pack Ultra on trademe but knowing nothing about this type of thing would appreciate advice..eg mAh etc etc is there anything that you should be particularily aware of?

Also I have tried the casemate screen protector and it was horrible..everything looked dull and even looked pixillated...found some young guy off Manners Street in the arcade there in Wellington to put some Chinese screen protector on and everything back to looking good..yes the new screen protector does show up fingerprints but that is better than always looking dull...which sort of defeats the purpose

Hi, I had a similar problem. My computer failed to installing the drivers. As a result I could not see my Galaxy S3 in Windows Explorer. Kies failed to connect, as well.

I solved my problem in the following way: reboot the phone while it is still connected to the computer with a USB cable. This did the trick.

Part two of the AndroidNZ mega review up now, covering media (audio, video), gaming, and the browser. Kept it brief, at only ~8,900 words.

Cheers for the heads up, i've been looking for a racing game to play. Played half an hour or so this morning and then my alarm activated and closed the game... lost a half dozen race wins :(

Is this just a time-limited demo?  Or got ads in it?

Doesn't seem to have any ads at all, and I played for about half an hour with no mention of time limitations.

I found another game (Carcassone) in the Samsung app store that was free there but cost a few dollars in the Play store. Maybe just a deal Samsung made with some of the publishers?

Yep, I have heaps of HD games from Samsung Apps :) but now it is no longer free or available.
For example Paladog Full game. Was free limited time and man I am glad I got the game :)
It is a bloody fun game to play. You can still get the Free version from Samsung Apps but not full version.

This might not be related so much to the Samsung Galaxy S3 but Android in general but I thought i'd post it in case someone searches about it.

My S3 was having problems sending text messages (It would fail on every message). I could however receive messages fine.

I was told to reset the SMS Message Center Number. You do this by entering *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer and then in the Device Settings I could enter the number... or so I was led to believe.

When trying to update the number it would never be set no matter how many times I tapped Update. As soon as I exited the service menu it was reset.

The fix is that you can set this number in the Messaging app settings directly and it will remain here after a reboot. It will also then mean all alternative messaging apps will work.

I know Go SMS has a setting to set an alternative SMSMC number but I didn't use it.

Maybe that will help someone.
