MurrayM: I wonder if I can use Blocking Mode to replace the Bedside Buddy app that I currently use?  I use this to turn off data sync between 9pm and 8am so I'm not disturbed by incoming emails, but calls and texts can still come through.

You should be able to use the Sync Schedule (in email settings) for that.

I can't seem to find anything that lets me set a schedule for when data syncing should be allowed, I can only turn it on or off.

In the Gmail app (which is the only email I use) I go into Settings and then tap the account I want to change.  Under "Data Usage" it says "Gmail sync is ON" and if I tap on that then I get taken to "Accounts and sync" that lists all my email accounts.  I can tap on an account and then I get a list of items that I can sync (calendar, contacts, currents, drive, etc) with tick boxes next to them.  And that's it.

The Bedside Buddy app that I'm using works just fine, I just thought it would be neat if I could remove it and do the same thing with the built-in settings instead of having to use a third-party app.

Fantastic. Finally official JB update. I am very new to android (from ios). Is it matter of downloading the file and updating as stated? Do I need to update modem separately? Can anyone put up a step by step method please? I want to change because I am basically sick of waiting for updates in the future. As long as the Poland version gets regular updates in the future I would be very keen to try it out.. Thanks.

If you want the official rom then all you have to do is check for new updates (from your phone) and when its available, its better to do it via Kies software. So have Kies running on your pc and plug your phone via the microusb to the pc and Kies will advice you step by step from there..

Technically even though it is an official firmware from Samsung, retailers can choose to void your warranty if they are smart enough. But if you flashed this firmware and then when Vodafone firmware is released then you can flash it on top. It will not increment your customer kernel counter. As long you do not root your device that is.

You can start by download CheckFus and have a read through of the risks and the chance of bricking off XDA forum.

Find out the information about the firmware you want to flash and type it into checkfus to download. Or alternatively you can download from Sammobile.com/firmwares. If you trust the site the source that is.

Flashing is fairly easy. All you need is ODIN3 v1.83 and the firmware package.

Click on PDA and locate your firmware and click start when you are ready. Be careful about the firmware revision and model it is for. :)

Good luck. You are on your own.

Question regarding this, Kies tells me "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies". Does anyone know why it's telling me this? My Galaxy S III was bought from a 2 Degrees store.

well basically if you have rooted phone you won't get updates from Kies. If you want to wait for telco's to release updates you will die of frustration. Best advice is that if you want to be an android nut root your phone and either flash the newest stock rom as interger has said or choose from the multitude of custom roms on XDA.

If you root phone you won't need Kies again.

As said it will mostly void warranty on phone but you can use a couple of methods for restoring to stock and changing the count. I'm pretty sure you can still zero count on JB but need to check that.

I'm getting the same message. I have a stock 2 degrees S3

Can someone from 2Degrees please answer this question, as to why a stock 2Degrees S3 doesnt support upgrade via Kies?

Coz soon when Samsung releases the update for NZ, we wont be able to upgrade our handsets the official way..

Jeffnz, you can reset the count with triangle away just like previous version of Android..
As for two degrees phone issues with Kies. Try update Kies to the latest and try again. Normally related to old root kernel. If you root your phone with cf_root 6.3 and above then it will be just as stock kernel.

Update on JB changes:

-Browser is also updated. Scores better in Sunspider Java script test. 1000ms-1130ms.

I can't seem to find anything that lets me set a schedule for when data syncing should be allowed, I can only turn it on or off.

Sync Schedule is on the stock email app, not on gmail.

Oh, thanks for clarifying that.  No good for me then since I use the Gmail app.  I'll just stick to the Bedside Buddy app.
