Woke up this morning to find my S3 stuck on the Welcome screen, turns out it has bricked itself while I was asleep.

Anyone know anything about getting these fixed? I'm not sure if I'd be covered under warranty.

Mine has been doing strange things today too. For no reason it has rebooted a few times, and at one stage I thought it was going to be stuck on the samsung logo. I haven't installed anything on it for some time either. Also still has the copy and paste problem where it doesn't work. Thinking of returning it to Dick Smiths, but that could be a frustrating experience in itself, and they will liekly find no problem, and say it is solely sofware related. I kind of now regret I purchased this phone, my older iphone never had these problem, and although it wasn't perfect, it wasn't as buggy and frustrating as this.

You've tried all the usual things like removing battery, press and hold power button until reboot etc?

I did that a million times. Was able to put it in Download mode, tried to flash CF Root so I could perform recovery, said there was no PIT partition. Tried to re-partition the device, it failed. Good one Samsung.

read back and check out the links provided, if it is SD then you are covered either by warranty or CGA.

wakaridnnz: Yeah I'm going to leave it in the mean time. I ran the eMMC check memory test and it was all good. Once the dust settles a bit I'll have a better idea of a plan of attack.

The check tool is for the S2 - so you can ignore anything it says about being a sane chip, or the results of the memory test. the tool was only being borrowed to check the model and fwrev.

Since you have a VTU00M, I'd highly recommend that you apply a kernel update at least - even if it's just the stock one from XXELLA (which is what I've done).

I think it might be too late :o(

It's been a horror day from the moment I took the phone off charge this morning. Freezes and random reboots at the worst possible times ie. mid call and seems to happen lots when I use the google search bar, copy and paste has gone all weird too.

Yes.. mine is also doing some strange things! It gets stuck on texting.. I seem to notice the following issues?
-Takes about 2 seconds to unlock the lock screen
-Swype key texting.. gets stuck on words when I hover over a few letters..
-The whole phone seems to run a lot slower? And I only have 37 text messages..

Maybe I am doing something wrong here..?

I had my share too, restarting out of a sudden, not recharging, connected to charger but discharging, and some other stuff. I haven't seen any of this yet since I have upgraded to the XXELLA firmware. I will let you know if something weird happens again.

appears the 32gb models are ok, to be on safe side download emmc checker from google play, its for S2 but you are looking for the the type and version of chip. The type is VTU00M ver 0xf1 take no notice of the the brick bug it isn't relevant to the S3
