The other thread is getting quite long so thought I would start this for S3 owners to share tips and tricks of the phone.

One thing I was looking for which I liked to use on my Galaxy S was Swype.  To get a similar system to this on the S3, enable Predictive Text and then select Continuous input on the Samsung Keyboard Settings menu.

Smart alarm under the alarm settings (obviously) - it builds up the alarm volume instead of waking you up with a jolt in the morning

Never seen it before on my other android, but if you hold down the settings cog on keyboard, you can bring up the clipboard list.

To change the shortcuts on the lockscreen head to Settings --> Security --> Lockscreen options and then press on the text that says "Shortcuts" beside the toggle that enables or disables them. You'll be taken to a screen that lets you select which ones you want.

I worked that out early and see the question asked all over the internet about how to do it.

EDIT: Oh, something else worth mentioning - I checked Better Battery Stats yesterday and noted that I had a permanent USBunmount wakelock. Not sure if this was from disconnecting a 500GB portable hard drive, or from disconnecting from my computer, but worth watching out for.

Loving my s3 :)On my old galaxy s when i set wallpaper it gave me the option of just having a static wallpaper(portrait) or using the full wallpaper(landscape) that scrolled along as you scrolled through the home screens. Is it still possible to do the latter with the s3.I have looked and looked and only seem to be able to get the portrait and live wallpapers :(

xda have a spreadsheet going to the apps that can be safely removed. I thought a link to it here might be useful:

I have done some research.Seems samsung removed the scrolling wallpaper feature with touchwiz. If you want to use larger width wallpapers that scroll when you change homepages you need to use a different launcher.Go launcher works well.

A tip for anyone updating from an SGS2 that's running ICS...
My SGS2 was purchased in Australia and came with some sweet apps on the stock release that are on the Ozzie SGS3 but  aren't on our NZ phones. Neither phone is rooted but I found a way to move apps over and am really happy with the result.

SanDisk Memory Zone is available on Google Play Store. It backs up all installed apps (including those that carriers include by default - just not the standard Samsung core apps that are buried deep) and all media and data (including wallpapers). It can backup to SD card or various cloud services.

Backing up to SD card isn't the best as its not easily browsable to just isolate some data/media/apps. Dropbox works really well.

Install, backup to Dropbox, look in the Dropbox files from your new phone. Make sure the phone is set to run 3rd party apps then click on the apk to install. It worked like a charm.

Take screen shots by wiping the edge of your hand across the screen...

Also, Root guide has been updated and now includes a supplementary video guide to assist you AND instructions for returning your S3 to stock (in case you had warranty issues that needed sorting).

You can also take a screenshot by pressing the power button and the home button together.

Edit: Missed a word.

kiwitrc: Clockwork Mod recovery! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684535

Yep, all in the Root guide linked to above!

Also, did everyone realise you can set up your own custom vibration alert patterns and assign them per-app?

Also, another hidden-away setting in "Languages and inputs" in settings is the voice control for apps settings. That lets you do various things like say "snooze" to snooze your alarm, or capture to take a shot with the camera etc...
