Is the S3 worth the extra $250 - $300 compared to the S2 ?

second John's answer there. Why buy older technology the S3 will last you longer and is the best on the market (my opinion)

I agree with earlier comments.

If you don't want to pay for the S3 why not go with modern mid-range Android? The Galaxy S Advance is getting very good reviews and is around $500; dual-core, 4" high spec screen, basically think top of the line 12 months ago with a battery you can change . It's what I will probably be buying for the other half.

You want bleeding edge spec, you bleed.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Confirms what I was thinking that either shell out $950 for the S3 or grab something in the middle range at $500. Just looked up the Galaxy Advance and it looks good and I see Vodafone have it listed as coming soon - wonder how much of a premium it will be over the parallel imported prices.

Reading back over some of the deals ppl have been getting on the S3 it seems they can be grabbed for reasonably cheap as long as Bond & Bond / Noel Leeming etc. have a 20% off sale. Doesn't make it a huge jump up from the $500 midrange phones !

Xperia S is another phone which caught my eye as it is a bit cheaper but doesn't seem to be sold here and I am a bit concerned about buying a parallel imported phone due to warranty etc.

I thought the S2 was a pretty good bit of kit however the S3 blows it out of the water, the big HD screen and what Samsung have done with touchwiz are huge, spend the money now on the S3 if you by a $500 jobbie you will ultimately be disappointed and end up buying a S3 anyway later on

Both are pretty awesome, obviously the S3 is going to be better but if i actually couldn't afford the S3 i would get the S2. S3 is definitely the best ive played with, good battery too

I don't actually own one at the mo, just been playing for the last couple days, doesn't seem to need a custom ROM really... not until something decent comes out anyway.

S3, as others have said, but if you can't afford it then I'd definitely go S2 rather than shell out for something else. I love my S3 but I also love my S2. IMO, the S3 is the best darned phone currently on the market with S2 a close second.
It's easy to talk about old technology but really its all relative. I only bought my S2 just over 7 months ago and people were telling me then it was old tech, having come out 6 months before.

If I hadn't loved the larger screen of my HTC Desire HD so much I doubt I would have changed to the S3.

Played with a friends S3 VERY VERY nice screen, ran 720 MKV video fine (Didn't play with 1080 so unsure how that would have worked) played Mass Effect on it and it ran very nice. Sure puts my Galaxy Ace to shame.
