Hi all

I purchased a parallel imported HTC One V through Parallel Imported and running on 2degrees. I had to set up the data apn's manually as I've found every HTC I've tried (One X, Wildfire S, my One V) won't receive the data settings via the website or the 2dgrees sim tool kit. Anyway, the data speed is incredibly slow, to the point where it's unuseable as a smart phone. However when I use the phone as a WiFi hotspot, it's superfast on my laptop and tablet.

Because of this, I've gone back to using my old Ideos X5. The data speed on the phone is like going from dial up to broadband, but slower as a WiFi hotspot (go figure..) than the HTC. However I have an issue with the battery on the X5. Yes the battery life is crap like usual (I've just put it on charge as it was already at 23% before midday), but it flucuates really badly. It could be on 44%, I start using it and BOOP BOOP low level warning 22%. Then seconds later it's on 44%, then down to 18%.. then 38% then more beeping and warnings and 14%.. then 28% then critical battery warning at 4% then it might stay on 4% for ages then shut down. Thankfully I turned down the system volume as the constant BOOP BOOP low battery warning does my head in.

Anyway, is the HTC faulty or is this an HTC thing? Would a new battery solve the X5 issue? I tend to think it may be a software glitch. After a full factory reset it doesn't do it to begin with, then start installing apps and eventually problem returns. X5 is upgraded to 2.3.5 (had issue before and after upgrade).

Any advice appreciated :)

For the x5 go to the huaweidevice webpage and download the latest firmware, i have done this in the last week and i have noticed BIG improvements on batterylife.

Firmware is 192mb big just need an sdcard to copy to and hold vol +/- while turning on, if you get a pink screen the firmware needs to be in a folder called dload i think it was, all the info for upgrading is in the zip file in a pdf.

thanks for the reply, I think I already had this software update but reinstalled it (after first getting excited thinking there was an ICS update, was for X5 Pro instead wah). Didn't change the battery life, but a couple of apps I had previously are now incompatiable (quick quake viewer is one). Ended up buying a new battery off trademe, supposedly genuine.. battery life still isn't flash, but is consistent now and doesn't flucuate but still need to charge when I get home from work.

If only someone would sell the Ascend P1 so I could upgrade...
