Topic # 106599 27-Jul-2012 09:57 Send private message

It's seems that the "future owners" series is very good idea to share information, pricing, deals and rumours about a product.

So here I am a fan of the Nexus 7 but I want more screen and I know the price I have to pay for that (backpack and less battery life in theory)

Based on the information I have got, oh wait let me rephrase this Smile

It has came to my attention that (feeew, that's better) Google is working on getting the Nexus 10" tables out in the market. Sold, you had me at Nexus.

Here are some related topics around the subject:

Rumor: Google releasing 10″ Android tablet this fall
Google Working On 10 Inch Nexus 10 Tablet (Rumor)
Report: Google also working on a 10 inch Nexus - Notice how it goes from "Rumor" to "Report". It's coming...
Reports point to Google Nexus 10 in the works

Ok, a good question pops in my head, is it gonna be Nexus 10 or Galaxy Note 10???

These supposed analysts don't seem to have much luck predicting things other than the most basic and guaranteed releases such as the mere existence of the next in a series.

On that note the only Tablets I have ever really seen that particularly interested me where the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Nexus 7 so a 10 inch Nexus could be a nice gap filler for them.

I think it's a smart move to get the 10" tablet rollin, Google won't lose nothing but doing this, the gain however can put them on the top of the foodchain (in the tablet market, they are already there in other markets)

The note is very interesting, with the stylus you can do a LOT more, however this comes with a price too, software and firmware updates.

Remember that people with Galaxy Note (the phone) are still SUFFERING trying to get an official NZ version of ICS.

I believe with Google Nexus 10" there, the market average price will drop to compete, good for us. Only if google sticks to their policy of good quality for cheap. Otherwise we're scr--wd

I have a feeling they will stick to a good quality for cheap policy seeing as how fast nexus 7 is picking up fans.. they wont want to weigh down their 10 inch version with a heavy price tag.. (I sincerely hope)

Right guys, the Nexus 10 is now a go and I consider myself a future owner :) Impressive specs despite lack of 3g and SD card...

MobiCity has it in stock for $630 but since Google is selling it for US$399 (not to NZ though), I'd rather pay closer to that :)

http://www.mobicity.co.nz/google-nexus-10-16gb.html

Cheapest on ebay is buy now US$496 so that's no better

Anyone know if using a vpn and shipitto will get around the restrictions on google play store?

To be fair, after comparing this tablet Nexus 10 and Galaxy Note 10. I kinda favored the Nexus in every way except for the following:
1- No SD !! what a shame
2- No 3G !! DOH
3- No stylus, would have been nice.

The rest of the specs are much better than the Samsung, especially that you won't need to wait and wait and wait and wait Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz for Samsung updates.

I have friends in the US so this won't be a big of a deal for me, they'll even buy it for me as a gift ;)

Let's see if someone has a way around this.

Yup, this has been discussed in depth in the Nexus 4 thread and is how I ordered my Nexus 4 form the play store.
They have the Nexus 10 in stock so as long as you setup your google wallet with your shipito address then you should be able to VPN and order direct from google.

- Load your shipitto/youshop address into google wallet as your billing address (NZ credit card fine)
- Sign up for free 1 week trial of Unblockus (if you don't already have something similar in place)
- Order Google Nexus 10 :)

16GB model (US$399) ships in 3 days, 32GB model (US$499) ships in 1-2 weeks

While I'm not a fan of paying us$100 for 16GB of extra storage, thems the breaks and I'm gonna get the 32Gb one.

US shipping (to your Youshop address) is $13.99

Been watching some comparison and benchmarking videos and this tablet basically kicks the a$$ of everything else similar out there. Some of the win8 tablets and the latest ipad are definitely comparable, and may suit some people's wants or needs better, but in terms of Android tablets, this looks like the way to go.

Ordering through Google Play lands you the 32GB one for the same price as you can get the 16GB one from Mobicity here in NZ so apart from the shipping delay, it's a no-brainer really.

However, does anyone know how you deal with returns/faults if you order this way to a country you weren't supposed to?

Sadly you will definitely pay custom tax due to that price.. :/

That's dependent on it being noticed by Customs right? What are the chances of avoiding this?

If you are using the Youshop service you will need to declare the price and shipping cost yourself. This is the criteria in which any shipment gets taxed/duty.

As a general rule, anything that is (Price + shipping + insurance + duty) > 399 NZD will be held for you to pay the tax/duty.

This item will be $0 duty then you will taxed GST 15% + $30 something fees.

The only way to avoid this is by providing a false declaration of under $290 USD (for duty free items) or something (inclusive). Which is an illegal activity and an offence that you will be held responsible for even if you didn't declare it yourself. Despite that fact, it happens all the time.

I remember once I ordered diving gear from the US (40% of the NZ price) and in order to save about $400 of tax and duty I have asked the seller to divide the items into less than $230 USD each (duty is 5%). The guy said OK. I was shocked to find a massive box of diving gear with everything in it, but with a receipt on top of it with a total of $230 USD (incl) Surprised of course if they found out this isn't true, I will be the one held responsible, but I think I got lucky and I sent the seller an angry email.

The legal (right) way to do is to ship it to a friend in the USA, get them to open the box and test the tablet, play a little with it, ship it back to you as used (which is true) with much less price. Like a trademe auction, the price can go as low as $1 as long as both parties are happy with the deal. Don't forget that the amount you declare is the amount you get paid if the item gets lost in the mail though.

http://www.mobicity.co.nz/google-nexus-10-16gb.html

Seems to be your only NZ avenue right now. The 32GB model is sold out overseas currently so none of them in NZ stores yet

There are some on ebay too. US$600 including Intl delivery for the 32GB is the cheapest

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Google-Nexus-10-32GB-Tablet-/261135124910?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item3cccddc9ae

Those guys will often misrepresent the price too whether you request it or not. I order $1000 of stuff from an ebay seller last week and he put the total as being worth $80 lol. Didn't even ask him to

Ordering the 32GB from google will cost you US$513 plus the YouShop charge, so maybe US$530 all up. But you face delays and possible customs tax anyway.

Depends how bad you want one, which one you want and what you're prepared to do to get one :)

Oh if only it had 3G and SDC...

Dude!, mobicity is not a NZ based company, nor they ship from NZ, it will come from oversees as the alternative options and you will still need to pay Tax/Duty. However, they do have a service partner in Auckland to do the warranty stuff. They are Good and nice to deal with, it takes them ages to process orders and they fudge up things all the time which probably means they will try to make it up to you by sending more free accessories.

I don't think there's a way to avoid this unless YouShop claims that the price of the package is lower than what's suposed to be...i think you have to...
