If only it was that easy. With the legal quagmire that is copyright and licensing, it's stupidly difficult to move into a new country. Having the Australian agreements in place might make it easier to get get NZ agreements in place, but I wouldn't count on it. not for a while I would guess. Rights for australia and NZ are separate so Google would need to give a crap about NZ to bother negotiating for them. If theyve taken this long to get Ozzie, with tens of millions of potential customers, how much do you think they care about NZ, with only a few million potential customers.

I never understood why the Music/Movie industry had issues with copy right to places like NZ. Blocking companies from selling digital copies ENCOURAGES piracy rather that what ever it is they hope to achieve. Android / Google has a huge reach and huge potential for sales... If we were able to purchase.

The record and movie industries want to have their cake and eat it too. They're pushing governments to bring in stronger anti-piracy laws, just so they can continue to keep their idiotic restrictive region-based licensing. Either they don't see that the piracy is something that they've caused, or they're fully aware of it and they don't give a crap. It's stupidity, or arrogance, or both, and as consumer's we're caught in the middle and trying not to get milked like money cattle. Still, even without the music/movies, they could at least do device sales. That would not require much in the way of legal problems. It is still too hard to find a nexus device that is not a nexus 7. You cant get the phones at any of the big three mobile vendors since vodafone stopped stocking the nexus s, so you are left with parallel importers and some computer shops to get them. Would love to at least have the option of getting a nexus 10 and nexus 4 direct through google when my bank account one day allows for it.

Didn't Australia sign up for a lot of US copyright law when they got their free trade agreement (pay-off for joining the invasion of Iraq) with the US? The problem is that there is a chain of people who need to sign the agreements for video/music content jeff licenses to jon, who in turn licenses jack, who in turn licenses to jude, who in turn licenses to jules. These agreements stipulate lengths of time and services and need to renegotiated when adding additional services or time. I guess there just needs to be confidence that there is sufficient demand for the products. More parity in copyright law is probably a good idea if we want to get things faster. Rdio, Microsoft, Sony and Spotify can do it in NZ, Google should sooner or later. Boom new website - http://jamesstringer.co.nz

Are there companies in Aussie that do the freight thing like in the US where you can buy locally in the US and give their address and they freight forward it to you?

For devices that don't have a SIM inserted (e.g. WiFi only tablets) then it probably falls back to your IP address. I'm certain about the SIM card thing because there are apps that trick the Play store into thinking you're on another network (e.g. MarketAccess). I've used one of these before to get at a free app that's only available in the US for now.
