Topic # 111717 13-Nov-2012 09:26 Send private message

Sorry to start a new thread but the previous one seems to have been locked.

Has anyone got an official ICS update for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 (3G version)? I cant seem to find if there is actually an official update or whether NZ is just last on the list to get the update?

Samsung support is rubbish. Their email support page (linked from their Facebook page) doesn't even list any tablets in the product catalog.

I'm getting a bit tired of waiting now...

Thanks

I upgraded mine using the unofficial method. I got sick of waiting.

Cyanogenmod? Or an official firmware?

I'm happy rooting/tinkering (all my other devices have Cyanogenmod)

Is there 3G-supporting custom software around? When I looked into it (thinking to buy one), all the work seemed to be on the Wifi-only version of the 8.9 Tab.

Yea, just bought a couple of Galaxy Tab 8.9's and bit peed that they wouldn't update themselves to ICS.

I thought there was an ICS update for the 8.9?

Best 'unofficial' one?

I am seriously thinking of going onto the Cyanogen JB rom but want to have a fall-back to my current 3.2 OS.

I have tried to find a file that matches my tab (GT-P7310 wifi only) but couldn't find a nz version. Shambolic could describe the state of the art, here. Samsung don't seem to care in the least about these tabs. But correct me if I am wrong - maybe I just haven't found the right place.

Would be grateful if someone can point me to how to be able to flash back to my current rom if I need to.

TIA.

Apparently the 8.9 3G versions in Europe have started receiving their OTA ICS update (reported on 30/11)

If you go to XDA-Developers, you will be able to find an unofficial ICS ROM for the GT-P7300.

Link is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893456

I've been running this on my GT-P7300 without any issues, but as always, your mileage may vary.

I flashed the Malaysian ICS update on both of mine and they run fine. I see the European ver is out now, too, on sammobile.com.

I would just like to say that although Samsung is slow at releasing the updates I do really like my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and have had very few problems with it.

The big problem I do have is lack of NZ product support. When you go through to product support there are no tablets listed in the drop down boxes. I have complained about this twise now but no resolution has occurred yet. It is the chaps over here as all other country support sites have their tablets listed.

Yeah, I came across this the other day. The problem I believe is that AFAIK its based on the WiFi ROM and not the 3G ROM.

You will not be disappointed with Cyanogenmod 10 (the jelly bean one), I just installed this on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I am very happy with it. I have noticed improvements in speed and smoothness, battery life, and it looks and feels great. Was previously on the official ICS.

If you have clockwork mod recovery you can do a nandroid backup of your current ROM from the recovery screen and if it all goes pear shaped just restore the backup.

Well, I also got sick of waiting! My wife's P7310 now has the official Malaysian ICS on it and it is working great.

Mine has cm10.1 JB on it and that is also working very well. Only thing I have noticed that is not working is Photo Sphere.

Considering all you have to do with the foreign software is change the language at install time, you have to wonder what is stopping an official NZ release of ICS.
