My original phone I got at boxing day 2011. It was an IDEOS U8150, which has android 2.2 and I've found to be quite sluggish at times.

I'm looking for a newer phone either Android 3 or 4. Some form of multitouch, as it makes it easier to zoom in and out.

I have already looked at some phones and while I'm not to sure of what to look I've found 2 that should work alright for me.

The Alcatel OT-993 from 2Degrees back to school deal. The main problem with this phone is their is no scratch protection on the screen.

I also liked the look of the Sony Xperia Tipo Dual, as a dual sim handset it would be quite good to separate my personal from professional contacts. Though the cpu and memory were lower than the Alcatel so it might be sluggish.

I'ld like to hear other's opinion about these phones/any other phones.

I would prefer if the "Sixaxis Compatibility Checker" shows that, that controller would work. As I'll like to use a controller for some games.

I'd go for the HTC Desire X, comes with ICS and will get jelly-bean at some point I believe. Wife has one, she likes it a lot

+1 for this. at $299 the Atrix 2 is pretty great and much better than the Desire X in terms of specs. The Desire X has a Dual Core but it's Cortex A5 based meaning it only has 1.57DMIPS/core whereas the Atrix 2 uses a dual core Cortex A9 which as 2.5DMIPS/core. The A5 is also quite limited when it comes to video encoding and decoding meaning it can't record high definition video or play it back.

We have a Xperia Tipo Dual which we use as a spare phone with a vodafone and a Telecom sim in it. It is used strictly for calls and texting so have both Data turned off and Juice Defender installed In this configuration I get 7 days battery life on standby. Calling has minimal usage.

The key points are I find are it has a small screen and the key pad is not as responsive as with my Samsung. The keypad can take several attempts at touch to register the touch.

My understanding is that it can only have one of the sim's on 3G  at a time. You might want to check though. Not a issue in my case as Telecom uses 3G and Vodafone GSM. Possibly might be an issue if using 2 Telecom sims.

I'll probably buy the Motorola Atrix 2 in a few weeks from Harvey Norman (If it's still there). As it looks like the best choice. Though if I find a phone with similar specs & price I might change my mind.

Would have to agree with this. I got a desire x for the better half when they were on sale for $199 at the warehouse; great phone and I'd highly recommend it at that price, but now they're back at 299 the atrix 2 wins hands down on specs.
