What is the longest time you have been placed on hold?

My record is with a certain ISP (who got purchased by a very large telco) - 2 hours waiting to speak with someone.

Approx 2 and a half hours with HP.

And that is not including being on hold once I have already got through to an operator!

Thank the phone gods to speakerphone!

48 minutes with telstra clear.

43 minutes with "an isp whom just got purchased by a large telco"

Telstra clear have markedly improved their wait times and that wait time was during one of their largest marketing campaigns.

the latter was simply a help line call for one of their many email outages which of course was not notified on the website or during the hold music even after it had been going on for over 7 hours

I only have a tolerance level of about 15min then I hang up. I think that might have something to do with my poor short term memory - if I have to wait too long then chances are I would forget what I was going to say

2 hours? Damn, that would drive me insane! To be fair, I've never had to wait that long. TelstraClear generally call me back if they're too busy to take my call right away. I guess the longest would be Vodafone when I had to activate my handset - I lost patience after around 10 minutes.

2.5 hours with Symantec.

2 hours with Telecom.

Both over 3 years ago. Never more than 20 - 30 mins since then with anyone (but even 15 mins is too long).

I had 45 minutes last Sunday when our power went off - then it magically came back on, and I STILL hadn't spoken to anyone, and there was no other message on the phone apart from "Someone will be with your shortly"

Why can't some of these places add some informative message into the hold queue.  - Yes we know your power is off etc, Yes the internet is down - so I don't have to be there any more!!!  Instead you either get the "Someone will be with your shortly" or overloaded with advertising...

Telstraclear isn't so bad, I always use the option to leave my number for a callback. I've noticed a few other companies do this as well (Southern Cross was one recent one). It seems to work, they do call you back.

I dread calling Telecom.

My last encounter with them took just on 45 minutes and this was too their managed accounts.

After 30 minutes of waiting I wandered to the other end of the office, managed to sing happy birthday, eat half a piece of cake, walk back to my desk (expecting for them to have hung up once they'd realised I'd gone) and still managed another 5 minutes before being answered.

Even if they had hung up, it was worth it. That was good cake.

Ugh. About three hours, probably closer to 3.5 hours with Telecom once. Absolutely shocking. 2 hours is the most I've had with Slingshot. And government departments tend to be quite hideous - 3 hours for the IRD and then transferred to WINZ, where I was on hold for another 30 mins.

Speaking of Telecom managed accounts - around 40 minutes for the Fletcher Challenge support line thingy once. A line that when you need to speak to someone to get support you really do need to speak to someone to get support.

I hate hold times. In fact I hate having hold fullstop.
