Hi,

I've been trawling through the other messages and can't find a solution to my problem. I've a Toshiba Satellite 5105-607 runningn XP which came with bt but which I've never tried to use before. It is also on a wifi network through a linsys router. I just bought a Sony Ericsson T630 which I have paired with a Jabra headset and it works fine, so I wanted to set up the laptop so that when I'm not near my home wifi network, I can go online through the T630 instead.

No matter what I try, though, I can't get bt to start on the laptop. I get the icon in the system tray but right clicking it just tells me that it could not get local device properties. When I run Bluetooth Service Manager ever option within it says it can't work without starting bt first. I'm going in circles. I'd REALLY appreciate an advice about this. Thanks.

You have to download a Toshiba Bluetooth Stack which supports the headset profile.
It will be supported with the next version. The release date will be September 2004.
Download it (september) from the folllowing URL and update your current Bluetooth Stack with it.

Thanks Don.

Since my original post, I figured out how to pair the laptop and phone so that I can use bt to get online. I still can't start bt on the laptop though, so I'll follow your advice and download that file. Thanks for replying.

Tomk, is it a built-in Bluetooth? If the Bluetooth is not supplied by Toshiba, this update will not work.

well, I know this was dumb, but when I saw the software already present on the toshiba I assumed that the bt was there with it, but it seems that it wasn't. After spending ages trying to make it work, I realised that it wasn't actually there at all, so I bought a usb bt thing, which is how I get online via the phone. Does that mean that the toshiba bt software (even with the laptop) can never work? It's not the end of the world if it doesn't, since I now have the alternative, but it would have been a LOT simpler if they didn't install the bt software and make me crazy trying to make it work in the first place.

This is an interesting story... Most of the Bluetooth software will only work with the hardware supplied by the O&M. I guess the software was there as part of the image for the disk. Don't worry about the Toshiba software then...
