Topic # 21515 29-Apr-2008 15:31 Send private message

I am receiving texts from Facebook fine, and they come through from the number 32665101. If I reply to that number, my messages are not rejected but nor are they posted.

Texting 32665 as instructed on Facebook sees the message rejected as an invalid number from Vodafone.

Does anyone know of a number that allows you to use the SMS features of Facebook? I appreciate that this could be an international number.

Is this to update your status? Just signup for Twitter and use their SMS feature which is more reliable - Facebook doesn't work outside the U.S. and some other countries.

Once you have Twitter working, add the Twitter application to your Facebook profile and it will update your status using the messages you send to Twitter.

Certainly status is one function, but there are others too that would be quite useful. It's interesting that I can find no mention of the texting not working outside the US, and receiving texts is working fine. I'll drop them a support request as there may well be an international number.

Thanks, I do already have Twitter and can use it for status.

The Facebook sms function is USA only, it says so when you sign up for sms functionality on the Facebook website.  You have to enter your phone number with Facebook for it to work, and currently they only accept American numbers.  Depending on your phone you may be able to use the Facebook mobile application, otherwise Twitter will be your only other alternative.

Oops, my mistake:

*Facebook Mobile Texts are currently available only in US/Canada/UK on the listed carrier networks.

That is from the Mobile page on Facebook - go to My Account, and then click Mobile.  It says it in there.

If you have a wap capable phone you can go to m.facebook.com.

Yes the mobile interface is very slick. However, it is accepting my NZ number fine, and I am receiving texts including status, pooke and other updates. Sending is the only thing that doesn't work.
