Here's one for you all.

Has any one successfully managed to get a Vodafone NZ mobile to download mail from an Xtra email account?
Specific example is a VF i-Mate SP5 which has a POP email client. Can do it for other non-Xtra accounts, but no luck with Xtra.

I've heard that Xtra/Telecom blocks requests from the Vodafone network. Anyone care to confirm or deny?

There are several ways around the issue, but I'd rather not go down those paths:
1) Forward email to Vodafone email address and get phone to download messages from VF email account
2) Move ISP's - not an option in this case
3) Set up Secure Remote Mail (using SSL) - use the [email protected] and [email protected] service - problem is that there does not appear to be any way of configuring the SSL port numbers required by Xtra (995 for POP3/SSL and 465 for SMTP/SSL)

You can only access Xtra pop/smtp servers from outside their network if you have a Secure Account, which carries a monthly cost.

Once you have this, simply setup the SP5 Smartphone as usual, but adding the ports at the end of the server name, as standard on the Internet (pop3r.xtra.co.nz:995 and smtpr.xtra.co.nz:465).

Make sure you check the option "Requires SSL connection" if this is the case.

freitasm: ... ([email protected]:995 and [email protected]:465)...

are you sure it is pop3r@xtra.co.nz:995? not pop3r.xtra.co.nz:995?

I must of had a moment of brain fade (stupidity) when I wrote this post.
Yes pop3r.xtra.co.nz:995 and smtpr.xtra.co.nz:465

I can confirm this works

Cheers
