NB: SOLVED. Vaio laptops have a switch on the front right that turns wireless on and off.

My Dad's in a different town from me, he's told me his wireless isn't working. I logged in using logmein and it looks ok generally, though wireless it turned off in the system tray.

When I click on the "wireless LAN" slider or try to slide it it says "Turn the Wireless Switch on the VAIO to ON".

Does anyone know what this "wireless switch" is? I've had Dad look all over the laptop and he can't see anything, just buttons with web, assist, and something else I can't remember but didn't sound relevant.

What OS is it running? Win 7? I suspect it is a software switch.

On my Dell if you left click on the hidden icons triangle/arrow on the bottom right of the screen in the notifications area there is an icon for switching the WiFi adapter ON and Off.  Perhaps this is where the "switch" is that's being mentioned.

EDIT: Just re read your post and it seems you've already looked there.  :(

Thanks for the thought, yeah I think I found that one. It's a left and right arrow right beside each other?

Yes Windows 7.

I have five items to the left of the date/time, from right to left speaker, internet access, PC issues, battery/power status, then hidden icons, if looks like a small UP arrow to me.

Have 2 Vaio laptops, both have a wireless on/off sliding switch on front edge about 5 cm in from the left side.
