Hey guys Playing World of Tanks on SEA server - my ping is usually around 200 - 250. Would I benefit significantly from turning Interleaving off? And if so, would turning it off cause any issues with other activities such as torrenting? I am with Telecom, btw, on 30GB plan. Any advice greatly appreciated thanks. Yes, you will get a drop in ping. My ping dropped from around 50ms to 18ms after disabling interleaving. Also, my broadband speed increased by around 20%. But, if your connection is poor, then it is not a good idea to disable interleaving.

By "poor" do you mean general speed? I'm getting around 12mbps download, .9 upload (off the top of my head, but around that), so I assume that's pretty okay. Using my friend Google it tends to indicate that if I turn off Interleaving it may cause torrenting errors? "He's not the Messiah, he's a naughty boy"

Generally interleaving will improve you ping but may come at the cost of some stability and/or speed.

Due to the nature of BT it'll automatically redownload any broken chunks anyway. I'm getting 155-160 ms to California (Warcraft).

I get 250-270 WOT. I have tried it with Interleaving off, but it didnt really help and caused a few other issues. I go it put it back on. I have no problem with WOT with this ping time. Only have problems when it goes over 300 (if i'm downloading something)

don't forget about the cut cable at the moment, that will hurt your ping considerably. It should be fixed soon... hopefully :)

Interleaving is generally shunned upon by gamers as it will increase your latency which is a major factor in gaming. However, its existence has a purpose and may also provide benefits to your connection as well. Here is an example where a line might benefit from interleaving: Interleaving Off Interleaving On You may notice an increase in line speed (and probably less line errors) and at the cost of slightly lower noise margins and higher latency. In this case, it's probably best to keep interleaving on. However, interleaving may have an adverse affect to lines that don't need it. Refer to the following: Interleaving On Interleaving Off In this case, you will notice a huge performance in line speeds when interleaving is turned off. Noise levels do go down, affecting stability slightly but it is still at an acceptable level. Obviously, latency will go down as well. Some older modems can't handle the CPU overhead required for interleaving while providing ADSL2+ sync rates. In the end, every line is different and will react different to interleaving. The best thing to do is to try interleaving off and change it back if you are experiencing issues/dropouts/high error count. Edit: fixed image order

Those line rate improvements are due to lower noise margin and attenuation. A change to interleaving depth shouldn't change line attenuation or noise margin, presumably they (Chorus, formerly Telecom Wholesale) have bundled other changes to the profile in with the "interleaving off" profile. Interleaving off or low queue depth should be the default with fall back to on only if needed. Chorus sort of does does this with VDSL2 automatically with DLM.
