Hey

iPhone using XT/Telecom.

Sending and receiving iMessages via WI-FI works fine. Sending and receiving a pic (or MMS if you prefer) using iMessage does not work unless cellular data is on. There are times when I have moved away from WI-FI coverage and turned on cellular data to find a couple of pics come through on iMessage (usually of my little boy from my wife as she updates me during the day). She has sent them earlier in the day but they have not come through when connected solely via WI-FI

Anyone got an idea about a remedy on this?

MMS is a mobile network service which works over the WAP Gateway its not meant to work over WIFI

Google search how MMS works its all controlled over the mobile network first part is a SMS the end user can't see then the handset picks up the content off the MMSC

So I take it that the WAP gateway is not internet facing and only for 'internal customers' or on net customers

iMessage requires a data connection to work, its different to SMS

iMessage does work, just not when you send a pic using it. I would have thought being a purely data service, there would be no need for the gateway.

I'll google more when I get in front of a PC. Just shooting from the phone for the interim.

That's what I thought, which is why I ask why I can't send and receive pics via iMessage using just WI-FI.

Odd considering I never have cellular data and WI-FI on at the same time. Could be a carrier setting needing tweaked?

There is a setting you need to check on the handset
