Is anyone else in Auckland experiencing high pings during peak time?
This issue isn't the one in the US between cogentco and AT&T. It's affecting everything, from the first hop after my router.
I've been having this issue for a few weeks now, and contacted Snap support about it on the 29th of January. I've yet to receive any updates from them on what is happening with it.
Something else which may or may not be related, I'm also unable to stream twitch.tv content at the moment.

I remember a while ago there was an issue like this relating to some VDSL users, perhaps it's a similar issue?

Yeah, same issue here. Pings were previously 5-6ms within Auckland, and still are when it's not peak time.

Hi All,

There is a current issue during peak times (Residential peak which is normally at night) which is affecting a couple of suburbs, this will be resolved with some planned maintenance happening Wednesday morning next week.

Good to hear. Getting US pings with packet loss to Sydney is not nice.

Weird it's never got so bad for me.  It does seem to be getting slightly worse over time though.  It was not quite as bad Saturday night.  I've been graphing it for ages.  It got worse on the 28th of Jan, but it had actually started in a minor way before then.

They're definitely changing things at the moment, my ping has been all over the place to Sydney between 35ms (where it should be) all the way up to 180ms, with varying degrees of packet loss.

RalphFromSnap:  this will be resolved with some planned maintenance happening Wednesday morning next week..

So does this mean the 13th of February or the 20th? Because right now pings are still high. :(

I haven't received any emails from Snap since the one asking me to restart my router to confirm I'd been put on a static IP.

hmm, actually that's slight latency increase isn't it.  path shows the same though, although you get a response from geekzone and I don't.  i'm using udp rather than icmp though.

with icmp it's like:

I'm seeing this on Telecom too in the last week or so since we were switched to EUBA/BBA (used to be on the legacy FIPD network)

We currently have >40ms+ first external hop instead of 16ms we used to have.

Speculation is that it's regional congestion on EBUA backhaul/aggregration due to Telecom switching massive amounts of accounts off the legacy FIPD service onto EUBA.

Hi guys,

Latency on the first hop tends to indicate problems in the Chorus network.

Can you please PM me your username if you're affected - I'll start adding people to my Smokeping and see if I can correlate the latency.

Tim.

I'm getting a ping around 50ms and download around 17mbps upload around 6-7mbps. Usually around 30mbps down and 9mbps up (Using SNR Target tweak set at -50).

I have this since I got back from holiday on the 31st Jan.

User name PM'd.

Cheers.

Not fixed yet as far as I can tell.

Seem to be cross ISP backhaul or aggregation issue in Auckland.

Ping is still 4x higher than normal (~40ms vs ~10ms) and throughput is gimped where you can't stream HD in peak time on Telecom.
