Ive always liked the Nexus range, but now I have a SGS3 it seems like a sideways "Upgrade". Would love a new toy for Xmas though. Nothing quite beats taking something brand new out of a box on Xmas day :D

Yeah, likewise re the sideways move from the S3. I have never owned a Nexus and so fully intend on grabbing the LG if I can get a 16Gb model.

And the Xmas present to self :-)

I may or may not be making extensive use of this thread - depending on whether there's a 32gb version or not. Anyone else in a similar boat? I don't want to buy a 16gb phone with non expandable storage when im using 14gb of my 32gb microsd card. It simply doesn't make sense from a future proofing perspective.

Yeah sure they want to promote cloud storage, but having storage options which are deemed entry level from other manufacturers is just pitiful =/

"sideways" hmm well in my opinion any new smartphone that doesn't have external storage available is a backwards step, actually I can't understand it really

There will definitely be no external storage on a nexus device. Google doesn't want the use of USB Mass storage as this means you need a separate fat32 based partition which needs to be mounted to the host and taken away from the phone. They want people using MTP, which allows simultaneous access and doesn't require a separate partition to be used. Which is a bit of a pain for those on OSX for example as they need to load a special application to use MTP.
I'm not a huge fan of MTP overall, it annoys me when i use a device and its MTP or PTP - it just feels limiting.

32gb of storage at this stage is enough to satisfy my current and as far as i know, future needs - so that's all we can hope for.

I'm not fussed with the storage capacity 8 or 16Gb.

I do my work on a Macbook, my gaming on a Windows PC and my photo storage on a wireless HD.

In reality, I need enough storage for on the run: Storage for few songs I'm listening to on Spotify, a few videos I take of the kids and a few of the Mrs and the general apps for the day.

All this fits easily in either 8 or 16 Gb, been doing it for years

+1 Storage has never been an issue for me either.  I stream my music and videos so I've never had a problem with 8-16GB.

I love the Nexus range so may upgrade my Galaxy Nexus to the 4.

Question:
Better to buy directly from Google play store or the UK? I seem to remember reading that the Google direct phones had a particular version (something like DRPJK ,--not right) and get software updated earlier than other non direct Nexus?

Cheers

I'm a little iffy about the 16gb as well, but being realistic, I have a 32gb card in my sensation and I think I haven't even used 10 of it. I had the intention on converting DVDs to watch on it. Have a couple but that's what a tablets for now.

16gb seems to be doable for me. And is it just me or do the prices seem REALLY good compared to reasonably "comparative" devices (i.e. SIII)?

I mean throwing down nearly $1k for an SIII seems daft when you compare getting a Nexus 4 for around $600.

I have 16gb s3 with a 32gb sdcard. Both are maxed out. Would love this phone but not microsd means no sale
