Just announced after many leaks and speculation. The HTC One (note: not the X V or S) is HTC's new flagship. http://www.htc.com/nz/smartphones/htc-one/ Press conference just completed so details are filtering through. Better battery, better camera with some extra tricks, an IR blaster, expandable memory !!!, nice form factor and an improved screen (thought the HOX screen was pretty impressive). Not sure about the new home screen in Sense 5 though (bit W8-ish). Hope it is selectable. Software-wise, it's awesome, especially HTC Zoe! I am not 100% sure about the 4MP Ultrapixel bit. I personally prefer to be able to zoom in on a large res pic, even if it means there's more noise etc. These things can be fixed in Photoshop. (This is coming from a professional photographer!) It's now a battle between this and Sony Xperia Z. I think at the moment, it's a software v hardware battle.

I was just reading up about the $100 trade-in. People are hugely sceptical as to what it'll apply to. Will be interesting to see how that pans out for the countries (country) that gets it. Nice looking phone. Even though I have a Sensation, I lost interest in HTC since they never really seemed to be leading the battle. This looks like it might just get there. Agree, camera is interesting though. As will price.

I always thought the same thing but Apple consistently proves me wrong on that point.... Nexus 4 seems to be doing alright as well - if they could keep up with demand better. I was pretty anti the whole no slot as well but it seems to be the way everything is headed.Maybe because people like me turn around and say "oh well I suppose that's the way now" instead of not buying. To be honest, I have a 32gb card and I've thrown movies on it. I've watched half of one and that's it. I don't actually need that much storage on my phone but like to have it just in case :-). Tablets, on the other hand, definitely need to be a decent size.

I liked the look of this phone, I don't need a lot of expandable memory but 32GB would be the entry level total memory on a phone really. What kills me if the locked bootloader that HTC mostly provides. Sony are the same right? No custom ROM, no networkn sale!

Check out the HTC One X on XDA. Seems pretty active to me. I've found the custom roms to be of good quality with my One X. Just to preempt the next set of posts: No. Using htcdev.com does not void your warranty, no matter how many people (who often don't own HTC phones) claim it does.

no expandable memory INSTANTLY equates to no sale..idiots. Perhaps for some. In my experience, I've only met a small few who actually use their SD card slot. Personally, 32GB is easily enough for my needs. The majority of consumers are unlikely to use the SD card slot as a deciding factor at the point of purchase. iPhone, iPad, Nexus etc are good examples.

The phone looks great. The features look nice. The camera takes a direction I wouldn't have predicted. I'd be interested to give the phone a try at some point. I wonder how the battery life fares.

Here is what HTC have to say about it: "You are about to start the process of unlocking your device. Unlocking your device allows you to install custom Operating Systems (“OS”) onto your device. Custom OS’s are not tested as thoroughly as your original OS, and unlocking your device may void all or parts of your warranty. HTC disclaims any and all liability for proper functioning of your device after the bootloader has been unlocked and for data lost in the unlocking process." Unlocking your device allows you to install custom Operating Systems (?OS?) onto your device. Custom OS?s are not tested as thoroughly as your original OS, and unlocking your device may void all or parts of your warranty. HTC disclaims any and all liability for proper functioning of your device after the bootloader has been unlocked and for data lost in the unlocking process." They "disclaim any and all liability for proper functioning" - doesn't sound particularly hopeful for getting a warranty issue sorted to me. I'm speaking from experience. Having had my phone unlocked with a custom rom and repaired under warranty, no problems. The disclaimer is there because they can't guarantee the functions of the device with software they have not supplied or tested. I don't see that as a problem.

You having a good experience doesn't negate that they can, for whatever reason they choose, not honour a warranty in an unlocked phone. If they do that you have zero recourse. Zero. If you unlock your phone via HTCDev.com you should consider your warranty voided for all intents and purposes, if that doesn't sit well with you then don't do it. I think this is the only correct way to council people about it.
