Dynamike: This would have been a more honest letter to send: "Dear Stock Unit We increase the cost of our subscriptions every June. This year will be NO exception. We are working hard to decrease the value you get from our services. We have reduced the number of channels available to our basic customers. This includes Triangle Stratos. This trend will continue with the removal of TVNZ 7 at the end of June. As programming is purchased in US Dollars, the cost to us of purchasing programs has reduced. We have decided to pass these benefits on to our shareholders rather than to our customers. We have increased the advertising content on most channels. We intend to continue adding more advertising content over the next twelve months. Our iSky service continues to hold the Internet rights to our programming. This ensures competition from rival companies will not occur using the new UFB platform. We have finally added closed captions. And I can't quite understand people saying "You don't like it, cancel it." Or like Mauricio incorrectly put: "you have other options". Sorry to say but, no, we don't. Name one other provider in NZ that broadcasts Formula 1 (as an example), legally. I'll wait. :) Just because we subscribe to it, doesn't mean we can't be unhappy with some of their decisions. It's only natural. You do have a choice... To forgo the exclusive Sky programming... It's not a good choice, but it is a choice. You also do have an option to get F1. You can get a (very expensive) internet based subscription to Sky sports UK I believe... It's hundreds of dollars. You might also need a VPN. Cheers - N

Cheers - N So, to watch F1 I just need to stop watching F1? Strange choice. And the "legally" there is exactly that. Sky Sports UK subscription is legally restricted to UK residents, which I'm not. Watching over a VPN is not legal according to their T&Cs. I checked. At most, it can be considered a grey area. So again, no, there isn't another LEGAL option to watch Formula 1. I agree with you, though, on the non-exclusive content. If I didn't watch F1, I'd stick with Freeview. Or go online-only. "Roads? Much muttering about a couple of dollars more a month for your tele. Have you looked at your insurance premiums lately? ......... a bit more than a couple of dollars I think!

I am happy to pay for quality. The problem at the moment is that the quality of the image across all of the channels on Sky is bad. Viewers now have much larger screens. When we had smaller screens a multitude of faults was hidden. Now the bad compression and low resolution is there for everyone to see. The content that Sky is buying internationally is of an excellent quality. Discovery has some of the strictest HD standards in the industry for acquisition and delivery. But yet, we the NZ Sky viewer are presented with an image that is of very low quality. Many of the other channels are worse, some are unwatchable. I am glad that Sky have sent this letter. It's been the motivation I needed to ditch the HD Ticket, SoHo and Movies. I will keep the basic package as it's just easier for daily viewing and the MySky that I have invested in. Also, as rural, the Freeview quality is not HD yet. When this package price increases to $50 a month (and I am sure it will), then I will switch to Freeview. I know that my canceling of services means nothing to Sky. But, I also know that I tend to set trends, that others tend to follow my decisions. I expect that this is very true of many of the members of this online community. Where we lead, others follow.

Yet somehow people expect more for less when it comes to Telecommunications services....
