Thank You hdinsider, at last an ACTUAL user willing to review IGLOO. I am tired of the blathering on about the cost of pay to view sport. I am considering IGLOO and the 11 channel 30 day pack for my elderly mother who watches a lot of TV in the evenings. She already has FREEVIEW HD.

Am interested in comments on ease of setup and picture quality of the 11 channel package?
Can you connect the set top box via HDMI?

Thank You.

hdinsider: Went into Bond and Bond and bought one at 930 this morning.

Powered up the box and went through the setup via broadband. All OK except the usb port won't recognise the 16G stick I put in. Will try another one and get back to you...

Edit: Bonus... 30 days free trial for the 11 extra channels

Can you post some photos esp. ports. The ones on the website are pretty small...

You can use HDMI and yes you can play media from the USB key.
Manuals are available online if you want to find out more.

Do you need to "activate" this thing before can use it as a FTA STB??  I will most likely buy one of these as a spare STB for when my TiVo dies next time as my TV doesn't has a digital tuner but if it has to be activated  first I'll leave it until the end of January  when things return to normal .  No point in wasting a month of free use over Xmas/ new Year if your not there..

You should be able to use it as a freeview box out of the box (without Activating it)

I saw this options in early firmware releases

do they have new releases on Pay per view?

Dark Knight Rises is just out on DVD now so would be good comparison accross all the various pay per view services in NZ.
It's available on Quickflix right now pay per view, but not yet on iTunes for a couple of days and canot see it anywhere on Sky Box Office in their december marketing email.

Jon, you were after a list of ports for the set top box?
Check out the PDF User guide from the IGLOO website
Allan's links may lead you there too.
There is a good image of the rear panel with ports listed.
Its on page 5 of the PDF.

what TV shows do they have? the only one I can see on their website is Robin Hood (the UK version) which is $1.99 per episode.

for three series at 12 episodes per series that means it will cost you a whopping $72 dollars to watch all the episodes!

considering that Robin hood series 1, 2, and 3 is available on quickflix in their streaming service, you can watch them ALL for only $15 in one month AND have access to all the other stuff too. (which is what I did last month :P )

If people think quickflix is poor value for money I can only imagine how crummy they will think Igloo is.

Bloody hell. Can anyone who's actually bought one confirm: They haven't really marked the remote's mute button 'Shhh', have they? I mean, no-one would really do that, would they?

And the setup guide reads like it's been written for a six-year-old with learning difficulties. Is it supposed to be cute or something? No-one would really find that level of condescension friendly or helpful, would they? Or would they?

I think I'm losing the will to live.

Well, I've had the box for a few hours now. Interface is quick and easy to use. EPG looks good.

The layout of the channels is a bit crazy for me. CH5 for prime and CH22 for C4. The plus 1 channels are 20 and 21. Will just have to get used to it.

The pix quality is way superior to Sky satellite. MPEG 4 has the advantage there. BBC world looks quite soft though.

The mute button is labelled "Shhh" and it works if HDMI out is set to stereo audio. If you choose Dolby there is no volume control or mute.

The Audio levels of TV1, 2 and 3 are higher than the rest. Probably the Dolby levels different to non-Dolby as happens in some boxes.

SPDIF only on coax. Not optical.

Boot up is slow, but once it's going the operation of the menu is fairly fast.

Probably look at it again tonight after work. Hoping that the USB live pause works and that a degree of rewind buffer is available.

Yes, I'm happy with it!

Especially as the first 30 day sub is free.

Looked at the movie and TV PPV pages, really nicely layed out and lots to choose from.

Will book a movie tonight to check pix quality.
