Hey,

I have recently recieved a new decoder from my girlfriends parents to install in our flat. They got it through Sky multi room and had it installed down there before sending it up to us.

The problem is i can't seem to be able to get it to tune in. All i get when i turn the decoder on is the standard 'rain fade' message on screen

It has come from Christchurch to Wellington, i'm pretty sure that the cables to the satellite are all still connected as the last tenants (friends of my Girlfriend) had sky running successfully.

I was hoping someone would able to give me pointers to help set it up. I have played with the LNB settings unsuccessfully.

I have one of the new silver basic Sky decoders and a newer model dish.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Should work. I took mine from Auckland to Tauranga without any problems. Of course Sky will most likely charge you money when you change the address with them or worse charge a service visit whether you want it or not to make sure it is set up correctly..

When you say you have change the LNB settings have you tried the two different polarity options? Have you used that satellite before? Any chance it is damaged/not working? Try and get hold of a freeview bx to try on the satellite to see if it works.

What polarity settings are those?

i haven't used the satellite before but i can't see why it would be damaged i know it was working before we moved in and nothing has changed, the cord all looks in good condition as far as i can see. the satellite dish doesnt look like it has been knocked or damaged in any way at all.

I would stay that it is to do with the settings of the LMB (bit that receives the signal on the disk) I don't know how to change the frequency of the LMB but I have ran into about 3 different friquencies when installing freeview box's

There only two different L.O. frequencies used for LNBs installed by Sky AFAIK:

11.3GHz and 10.75GHz

The more recent "Dual Throat" LNBs are 10.75GHz and the older "Single Throat" were 11.3GHz.

Last time the Sky installer visited our place he installed a Dual Throat to fix a problem we were having with our LNB.  Try each of those L.O. frequencies if you haven't already, and it may solve your problem.

Failing that, you could ask your local Freeview installer to come and have a look for you.  Unless you want to stump up to Sky for a second installation, I doubt whether it would be something they would help you with.

Assuming her parents are not paying for the multiroom on that decoder, it would have been taken off of the account ( the parents account) and the card disabled. Irrespective of the dish condition it's all about how it set up at sky's end.

No the card is still active, they had sky come around and install it and then they put it in a package and sent it up to us. so Sky knows nothing of any of this and the card wouldn't of been deactivated.

+ 1

I don't know if anyone from Sky reads this (it doesn't seem that they care what people think of them), but posting on a public forum that you (or at least your in-laws) are breaking Skys conditions maybe isn't the brightest thing.

As to your issue, I would try and borrow a Freeview satellite decoder and see if it works. It sounds like the LNB settings in the Sky box are wrong.
