Hi Guys,

So I've toyed with signing up to Sky a few times, but always pull out due to the somewhat underhanded way they manage online sign-ups. Specifically by offering 'special' offers and then making it compulsory, i.e. you can't sign up for anything but the current offer. Manually choosing the 'basic' package still throws me back to the current offer page.

The 'specials' are always for premium channels free for a period of time, and then you're stuck paying exorbitant amounts for the remainder of the contract. I'm sure it's a highly lucrative approach for Sky, but it's unacceptable for me.

So my question is, is it possible to just sign up for the $46 basic package online? (I hate dealing with CSR's over the phone). And, how much is installation etc when you sign up without a deal?

Thanks!

You don't have to take the "Special Offer" premium channels for the whole 12 months. Just cancel them as soon as the cheap rate finishes. It's only the Basic package to which the 12 months applies.
I did that with no problem.

I have the same issue with the optional magazine which is included by default. The thing is, where else will you go?

Ditto, just cancel the optional channels before the free period expires and remember you need to give something like a month notice. Write it in your calendar as a reminder.

Great, thanks guys.

The current deal is for 3 premium channels for $1 each for a month, and then full price thereafter.  Guess if I cancel them on day 1 she'll be right.
